Castor Oil ?

Has anyone tried Castor oil..? And does it actually work ?

It's great if you want to take a massive smurf.

Starting labor, eh, not so much. It only works if your body is actually ready for labor. If it's not time, then it's not time.

I have heard of it working but only if you're for labor. Its something that should be used under the supervision of your doctor or midwife. If it doesnt work you could get intense cramping and end up on the toilet all night, heck that might happen even if it works.

My friend took it at 37 weeks and went into labor that night but her son had to stay in the NICU for a few days because he wasnt ready.

....works as a laxative... i wouldn't try it unless doctor recommended it and was being supervised...baby will come when ready  

Iwouldn't try it. Unless I really wanted to poop.

My SO takes it when he's constipated.
My sister took it at 39 weeks and went into labor the next day.

My personal experience with it was really good - no extra smurffing and I went into labor quickly and easily - but it is VERY controversial on here and people will rip you a new smurf for even mentioning it - I would discuss it with your OB or midwife and make your own choice.

For constipation, yes.
For inducing your own pregnancy early, no.

And you said "inducing your own pregnancy early".....she didn't say anything about trying it early.


OP- if you choose to give it a try, definitely let your OB / Midwife know because it does have the potential to cause issues, just like any other induction process, and be sure you are at or beyond full term.

I'm going to go out on a limb as assume that she is either A) trying to gather information for when she IS full term or B) isn't a huge dumbass and knows that inducing early is absolutely not something you should do?

If you want your baby to possibly crap inside you and have problems after delivery go for it. To me its not worth pooping like crazy. Your baby will come when ready.

There havent been any documented cases of that.
