Like Dakota? I never thought about it until someone, I don't remember who, brought it up that that can be offensive

I think you're really over thinking it.

Of course they will and then their child is the one who has to live with it for the rest of their lives.

Probably me, lol - it REALLY irks me. Tribe names are not first names, a huge majority of them are pulled from religious or spiritual meanings, it's like stealing someones belief system for your own enjoyment.

No, I've been studying etymology, anthroponymy and onomastics for almost a decade now, that include repercussions and cultural significance of names - it's a bigger deal than people think. It's not a choice to be taken lightly. A name lasts an entire lifetime and with the world becoming more globalized, taking other cultures into consideration is important.

Lol, don't be stressed! Just do your research and make sure that whatever you choose, it will last through an entire lifetime. I definitely suggest nameberry again - not the database, but the forums, there are some really well educated people on there and in general, they have good taste.

It can be stressful! It's hard to get the right name. My husband and I spend months looking for the right names, debating, conversing. To us meanings, popularity, and origin are very important. We consider our children's names their first and most important gift we give them.

It means "very beautiful" in Welsh, and Lilie is the German spelling for the flower lily. So her name means "Very beautiful lily". And our son's name means literally "red king" and "will/desire helm/protection" so "King who desires to protect".

I'm a firm believer in a positive meaning in a name can be a positive force in a person's life. I could never use names with negative connotations.

Don't care for Makenzie. Something really feminine would have to go in front in order to balance out Ryan's masculinity. Like Annabelle Ryan, Elizabeth Ryan, Penelope Ryan, Wilhelmina Ryan, etc.
