how can I become less scared or worried, I've been trying to

posted 19th Jan
I have not been scared of the labor pains, up until I went to the ER for some complications, that were later resloved with rest at the hospital. And well now I am starting to become extremely scared and worried that I won't be able to handle the pain or become the biggest baby. I am normally pretty strong but I just don't know how to become less stressed with labor. It's making my stomach upset and and I'm having really bad anxiety.I know it will all be worth it when I hold my baby and I will forget about it, but I just need some advice on how to become less scared and stronger.

Are you planning on getting an epi or any pain meds?

I do want the epi, but I am terrified of needles and the drs making mistakes. I absolutely want to cry my eyes out when they put a catheder(spl) I just am becoming so scared of the whole process.

My best advice is dont think about it. Do whatever it takes to distract yourself and think of other things. Your going to have the baby sooner or later lol. No point in stressing yourself out about it now, because it wont change anything. Also if you do get the epi wait untill your contractions are all ready pretty bad before you get it. That way you wont even feel the needle. Trust me, when the time comes, you will be too busy to think about any of it.

get the drugs. Everyone including yourself will thank you later.

There is no shame in being a "baby" since labor pains are horrible and the worst pain you can possibly imagine.

I had anxiety about it too. I don't mean to worry you more but it does hurt really bad - and I did become a big baby. Bring your mother or someone who has experienced childbirth before - my first time daddy did NOT help the first hours after my water broke. I was able to handle the pain MUCH better after my mother showed up. She held my hand through each and every contractions and hand-fed me ice cubes.
Just remember - labor pain is good pain. It means you're that much closer to seeing your babes. Also, the pain immediately disappears after LO comes out and you're so euphoric that you don't care how much it hurt - your LO is so beautiful and precious that it was all SO worth it.
As for needles - I didn't initially plan on using pain medication. I was induced at 6am and went through painless contractions unit the afternoon where I started experiencing more painful contractions. By the time they took me off at 10 I had only dilated 1/2 cm and needed a morphine/gravol shot to stop the contractions and let me sleep. The next day at 6am they broke my water. I had to get another
Morphine/gravol shot and they put 2 fentanyl doses into my IV. If I hadn't dilated so fast I'd have gotten the epidural.
I recommend getting at least the morphine shots - you don't even notice them by the time you ask. If you have an IV I think the fentanyl shot for your hospital may go directly into the IV so maybe ask about that?
Sorry you didn't need to know my birth story. Lol! I'm just trying to say that having a birth coach who knows what you're going through helps a lot, and that you really won't care if you're getting a needle by the time you're in full blown labor.
