I have no problem not having access to "military style assault weapons" if you can guarantee me that the bad guys don't have them.

The difference between what is allowed and not allowed with the bans is silly.

The statement "the only ones..." Refers to the fact that its the criminals who WILL get access while the law-abiding will not have access.
If the badass guns are illegal and I can't get one, the criminals are the only ones with those guns.

I am neither paranoid nor sitting on treasures.
Machine guns are already illegal.
I have no desire for that type of weapon right now but I might want one later and there are people that want and/or need one now.

Well it is amending a current right. And honestly they can make this bill but it won't make the slightest difference, it's a huge waste of money. Congress would be better off taking the millions they are spending on this and giving gun owners free gun safes.

Or I live close to the Mexican border where a lot of gang activity takes place. We've had numerous gang shootings in the last 3 years where innocent bystanders are shot because of these guns.

I'm sure that someone has said this within 7 pages of comments but, stupid people discharging guns on accident is not "gun violence".

Also, if police and military have these weapons, the general public (with proper training and permit) should be able to, also.

The right to bear arms is a Constitutional issue. Gun ownership is ENCOURAGED by our founding documents. It has NOTHING to do with accidental deaths or any criminal element. It is for protecting ourselves against tyrannical government.

People trust government waaaaaay too much. Where did this line of thinking even start?

All I know is that I see laws being changed and amended in order to appease an underwhelming minority.

ALL of these steps being taken to appease a very small minority or as punishment for the actions of very few.

i just think it is silly for your average citizen to have a gun that shoots 100 bullets in 2 seconds or whatever.
i'm all for the right to bear arms but when gun culture becomes so "cool" and pervasive that these smurfed up kids end up go right to them --and have easier access to blowing off the heads of 20 kids in 2 minutes... it's time to stop lauding ownership of these crazy rifles whether or not criminals will illegally obtain them or not.

i'm not deluded into thinking gang members and criminals won't still have access to banned guns but that's not really what this is about. Most of us arent' walking the streets with rifles slung over our shoulders.
