formula switch

posted 19th Jan
I have just switched my son from powered formula to Concentrate and I have notices he isn't spitting up enough. Has anyone else had this happen? I am just trying to figure out if it was the switch or maybe his is just having a good spit up day.

Did you mean hes not spitting up "as much"? Anyways, the pre-mixed stuff tends to be a little thicker and babies are usually able to hold it down better than the powder formula. This is just what I have heard however, Ive never actually used the pre made stuff.

Ohhh I didn't know that. I have heard if you 'barely' warm the bottles and/or don't warm them up at all that it will stop/reduce the spitting up.

My niece spit up a lot on powder but as soon as my sister switched to the liquid, she quit almost immediately. Turned out she was allergic to something in the powder that isn't used in the liquid. My oldest two were on the liquid the entire time and never spit up (one on advance the other on soy) but our third is breastfed so she has her spit up days. I'd be ecstatic about no spit up!! Haha

I am so happy about it but I just dont want to get my hopes up if it is not the switch since they have tried so much and I hate putting the cereal in his bottle like the doctor told me to since I know that it adds so many extra calories that is not needed. And the prevacid doesnt do anything but make it less painful when he does spit up.

I've had to do multiple formula switches on my LO from A.R. to Gentlease to the one that's like 40$ a small can URGH! Yes one poster was correct the already mixed formula is a lot thicker then powdered formula. I now have to put scoops of rice cereal in his bottle because nothing else was working. Does your LO have reflux or spit up like super bad?

Have you tried oatmeal on a spoon instead of cereal in a bottle? It's not only a choking hazard for baby but there have been small traces of arsenic in baby cereal (which is why it's not recommended by most doctors now a days) Not trying to start an argument, just figured you'd like some facts since you're not comfortable with the idea already..

Both he is seeing a specialist on the 6th to see for sure. They have never ran a test since he is still gaining weight. It is so frustrating since he spits up from the time he drinks one bottle to the other. I know I am not over feeding him since he is drinking 4 oz every 3 hours and he is 17 lbs. I even cut back on his bottles and it still happens. They have me putting 4 tablespoons of rice cereal in every 4 oz bottle and it is still working.

Yep he gets that for breakfast and he still spits it up 2 tablespoons of oatmeal mixed with formula. Nothing stays all the way down.
