This situation has nothing to do with me, like I said I am just stating my opinion. I feel sad that he died the way he did but in all honesty HE did this to himself by the life he led. Like I said before maybe something could have been done differently on both ends. The officer obviously felt like his life was in danger and that is why he shot Ernie. I don't think you can really say you would never do that as a police officer until you are actually in a position as his.

Ernie had 9 felony convictions between 1996 to 2009. His past criminal history is burglary, statuaroty rape, posession of meth, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended license, felony reckless evading, grand theft auto on two separate occasions, receiving stolen property, assault with a deadly weapon, and gang enhancements.

There is nothing you can say that will change how I feel about it.

And every woman who dresses sexy, has a history of promiscuity & then gets raped brought it on herself too, right? Or what about prostitutes, certainly they must okay to rape & it's really just their own fault. The fact is, it is always always wrong to blame the victim...period. Whatever societies judgements are about your past behavior shouldn't factor into whether or not you are seen as justifiably victimized or that no one should be held responsible for what they do TO you.

If that police officer is so jumpy & in fear for his life that an ex-con with a mostly non violent criminal history (with the exception of ONE assault) is enough to make him trigger happy I sure as hell don't feel safe when that is considered okay behavior & I don't want him on patrol in my neighborhood. If that police officer is unduly nervous about what he will have to confront, he is in the wrong career.

Not the same thing. This person had a violent past that affected other people in a negative way. Promiscuous women who dress a certain way aren't hurting anyone else but this person had on many occasions (and those are just the times he was caught). When someone has such an extensive record any officer is going to be on edge.

Besides, this guy has obviously had plenty of experience with the police. He knew better than to come out of a car like that. His body language was threatening and he wasn't complying with orders. Do I think he should have been shot for it? No. (I don't see why the officer couldn't have used a taser instead.) I do, however, understand where Sonia is coming from here. This guy set himself up for everything that happened. It's terribly unfortunate for everyone involved but none of it would have ever happened if this person didn't continually break the law and harm others in the process.

He had ZERO time to react. There was literally less than one second between him telling him to put his hands up and him gunning him down in cold blood. When you give someone instructions like that you can't just give them no response time.

I am not even going to read all of this, this has noting to do with what we are discussing.

i'm late but wow...he grabbed something that appeared to be a knife? where? cause i replayed it about 5 times and didnt see anything. the cop said "hands up or i shoot" and shot him right away. didnt give him any time to put his hands up. what gets me is how cop is on the radio "shots fired" and after that he fires again! dude is clearly not moving and you fire again??

i dont know his crimes or anything but really? no reason to shoot somebody 11 times after barely spitting out your warning

At some point the knife was recovered from the bed of the truck.

A knife was recovered not "the knife". Until i see slow motion video to show it was ever in his hand I see no nothing that indicates it ever was. I watched it over & over & can see nothing that indficates his hand was ever in any position to have thrown a knife (invisibly) into that truck bed. You can recover a LOT of things from the bed of our truck...it does not mean it was EVER in the cab or my hand.

He had ONE violent conviction for assault with a deadly weapon & I can find no detail of what that incident involved online. Sure, he "harmed" people in non violent ways, but he didn't have a long history of violence so that this type of approach was warranted. I am not sure you & I saw the same video as I saw a man fumbling out of a vehicle, NOT a man acting aggressively.

It was recovered, but if you look on the video the guy didnt have time to do anything let alone throw the knife in the bed of the truck.. The officer how ever put the knife he used to cut the shirt open on the back of the truck which very well could be the one that they later found in the bed.
The reason they were looking for him is because his wife had called them earlier about a domestic dispute and said he was known to carry knives for protection. So I think that the knife thing was on the cops mind the whole time and maybe yes he thought he saw a knife and panicked.
I think yes this guy shouldnt have been a parolee or on the run but none the less I dont see him making any dangerous moves towards them, I see that his foot got tangled in the belt and i believe that when he was struggling to get out the officer panicked and pulled the trigger and in that moment of panic he didnt stop shooting. You can tell that he realized that he had went overboard when he paused as the wife was going toward the guy and again when he couldnt find the knife.
Either way this is a very sad sad way to die. Alone on the ground, all because your foot got tangled in a seat belt and someone thought they saw a knife.. his poor wife couldnt even be by his side. Its just sad and it was very much over the top.
