Exactly.....he was trained for this type of situation. In this situation, the officer felt his life was in danger, so he acted as such.

But did he use the appropriate amount of force to subdue the suspect? Was it necessary to continue firing when the suspect hit the ground?

It is proven that in these type of situations, the officer always fires more shots than he thought. No matter how much training for these types of situations you go through, you can never be 100% prepared when you think your life is in danger. Almost always when officers are questioned after shootings, they think they fired far fewer shots than they actually did. It is the high stress situation. When his Sgt. (or whomever it was) asked how many shots he fired, he stated "around the neighborhood of 6", when in fact he fired about twice that many. He felt his life was in danger, so acted in that regards. Deadly force (the knife) warrants deadly force.

Quoting Wiggity Wack:" Check your messages. What have I said that didn't make sense? Yeah, no smurf. I haven't been in a situation ... [snip!] ... not a police officer. The man in question is, and should be well prepared to deal with hostile/potentially combative suspects."

You are completely smurfing stupid arent you? Its no use to even try to have a conversation with you

Excessive.....the idiot panicked. He isn't a rookie. He has 12 years under his belt.

And you could tell that he was stuck on the seatbelt (as it said in that article) especially when they had to cut him loose to move him away from the truck.

It was definatly excessive. I think thought that the guy must have had a prior history with them to have that cop so scared.

I don't understand how he was supposed to get out of the truck with his hands up. It seems like he was falling out of the truck and jumped to stop falling.

I don't get it man. Sad none the less.

Completely over the top UNJUSTIFIED. Just like the girl who was shot for shoplifting down the street from my house at Wal Mart in Houston.

He warned him BUT HE DIDN'T GIVE HIM MORE THAN ONE SECOND TO UNARM HIMSELF. He had zero response time at all. He literally went from "hands up!" to shooting him within 1 second. That is smurfing insane to me. I would have gone after that cop and smurfed his smurf up if that were my loved one. I smurfing hate how cops think they're somehow above the law in many places. Smurf you...you don't have the right to take a human life without giving them a second to respond to your demands.

I thought the same thing...he didn't have to approach so rapidly & fire AS he was telling him to "get on the ground" as if he had any other choice when half his blood volume was spilling out.

I highly doubt the guy did have the knife. It was found in the BED of the truck, not near him. He clearly seems to be stumbling out & trying to catch himself. I think it was a hideous mistake. And yes, if an officer makes a huge mistake, they should be personally liable - just like a bus driver is STILL responsible personally for any accidents or injuries they cause while driving.

like i told my cousin last night ok they said he had a throwing knife now unless hes a smurfn ninja what damage could he have done and im sure all the cops there were wearing bullet proof vests...to me it looks like the guy was trying to run not hurt anyone..and the way that cop kept firing then when the other officer asked how many bullets and the guy says six and he goes oh they just went in between the houses like oh who cares if there might have been kids around..we did are job im sorry but imo if this was a white guy this wouldnt have happened or they wouldnt have shot him so many times...

You never mentioned being a nurse! When did all this happen? Congratulations!!

Honestly, my initial reaction was that the officer was not justified but after reading the report and getting an idea of who this man is I have changed my mind.
