Degrees D&D

I know that I want to back to school but not 100% sure what I want. I think I would ENJOY being a teacher with preschool/kindergarten or high school age children but I know pay is crap and what about the summer? I want to be comfortable in my finances and lifestyle. I do not want to live paycheck to paycheck worrying about what would happen if something happened. I want that cushion. Is that even possible in this day and time? Haha

What degrees are most useful? I hear so many stories about people graduating and still unable to find a job and that's scary.

What degrees are the best? I wish there was a way I would dip my toes in everything like doctors do with rotations to know what I really want.

I'm a teacher - I wish I'd been a nurse. Better pay and much more flexible hours for moms.

Unless you're only going for money-- there is no "best degree".

Some degrees pay better-- they may be miserable jobs for you if you don't enjoy them. Some don't pay as well, but being able to enjoy your job may be worth its weight in gold.

Personally, I don't think any degree is a sure bet (though there are some that are better than others-- especially if you're not tied down to one area where you want to live).

Each area is different when it comes to jobs. I have two degrees, Business Management and Information Technology, however live in a poor area for finding good jobs.

I say go for teaching. If you don't have the funds for college and need loans, becoming a teacher for a poor school district will offer you loan forgiveness. That way you college is paid for. I say if you want a degree with lots of job opening looking in the medical fields, nursing is a big field right now. I wish I had got my degree in nursing because I know I could find a job with it.

That makes it harder to figure out! You know how bad I want to move out of state.

Where would you like to live? Look up which jobs are in high demand in those areas.

Nursing isn't as in demand now. Its super saturated. I just looked into it last fall when I was applying for college.

I'm a teacher and you get paid all 12 months lol, your pay is spread out so you always have a check don't worry!

And it isn't much, I have a masters and only make 44000$ a year. So if you are looking to make money, don't teach.

Depending on the area. There are a ton of open nursing jobs around here but in other parts of GA, not so much.

Nursing offers the biggest job openings in my area. There is a long waiting list at local colleges to even get into the nursing program around here.

I am getting a special Ed and elementary Ed degree. Here general Ed ( especially elementary and English/history) teachers are fighting for positions. The pay is still a lot more than we make now and you can spread your check out for 12 months. But if you really want good pay this is not the field.

Some teachers make very good money. I come from a family of teachers and they are all doing well and work 185 days per year. The problem is, there arent any teaching jobs.

As with most jobs, you have to look at the market where you are and, more importantly, understand what you are up for and what you arent up for.
Good teachers have a desire to teach. Good nurses have a desire to provide good care of patients.

If you are driven and a self-starter, you can make money selling or manageming businesses.
