What type of music? Just music or music videos?

DD's always been an observer so she follows you around he room. she doesn't like it quiet for long. i think she takes after DH and I and quiet is just too awkward. now that she's standing she will stretch herself to see you and watch you walk away. now that she's older, she'll wait a min to see if we're coming back. watching the spot where we went out of sight.

CIO is an important tool that may help if all other methods fail. Sometimes babies dont learn to self-soothe on their own and it's a REALLY important skill to learn.
There was no "other" to click so i didnt click anything.
.I neither agree nor disagree with the study as there is no real way to study this issue and make good conclusions.
The info is too subjective AND there isnt an ethincal way to collect objective data.

I agree that good sleep training should be done earlier the better, however sleep training does not always = CIO. There are far gentler ways to sleep train a baby. I am neither pro or anti CIO. I am pro- do what is best for your child and your life. I didn't need to use CIO but had the other sleep training methods failed then maybe. I don't think it would ever be my first choice though.

I don't agree, letting a baby cio at all only equals lazy parenting to me

It was a last resort for me. It was NOT lazy parenting. She wouldnt sleep in my arms nor in a crib nor co-sleeping. It was awful and nothing worked... except a very short time of CIO. Then our world was sunny and bright.

I definitely agree although I wouldn't have done it with my son at such a young age. I still think babies cry as a form of communication up until they're about six months or so and because of this parents should listen instead of ignore them. They have some kind of need that should be met when they're crying at that age.

Now when my son was about six months we started letting him CIO for short periods. If he was acting really tired and grumpy we would put him down, turn off the lights, and exit the room. Most of the time he would fall asleep but there were a few occasions where he began crying. Because I knew he was changed and fed I let him CIO for a few minutes (but never more than five or so minutes). Every time he stopped shortly thereafter and went right to sleep.

My son is now 17 months and he's a delightful little boy. He's incredibly happy and he sleeps from 6:30 p.m. to about 7:00 a.m. without a peep. He goes down for a long nap during the daytime too and he does it without fussing at all. Whatever we did worked out really well (plus he's awesome and laid back to begin with).
