I've been reading/researching a lot about vbacs.

In my research I've found that a lot of women get what's called a "gentle csection." Im not too entirely sure what that term means or covers but I know that the baby and mom have skin to skin and breast feed right there in the OR.

In fact the hospital I delivered at ( a small, 70 bed community hospital) DOES allow this. YET my nurses were well aware that I wanted to breastfeed but I had no idea that was an option! Why wouldn't my nurses advocate for me and let me know about this?! I was devastated that I missed such a great bonding opportunity with my son  

That's not the question but has anyone heard of this? Or did you happen to breastfeed and have skin to skin immediately in the OR ? How was it? Did your baby stay with you the whole time?

I didn't have a section, but my SIL did. She lives in Belgium, though. I've never heard of it happening in the US.

They pulled my niece out and literally handed her right to SIL. She was able to have skin-to-skin and breastfeed immediately while they were closing her up. She was so happy about it.

I always get so sad when I think about skin-to-skin and breastfeeding. My son aspirated meconium during labor, and they had to take him away the second he was born- I barely got to see him. I didn't get to hold him or breastfeed him until he was a couple hours old  

I held LO right away and delayed shots, eye drops etc until after we got our first nursing session in. I did not breastfeed right away. But I held him from the time they were done weighing and measuring. We were wheeled out with him on my chest to recovery. And he didn't get his first bath until he was well over 12 hours old.

Absolutley I did. As soon as they brought me the twins I picked up one at a time and started them off and did the same when my son was born.

My daughter was given to me as soon I was stitched up. I held her while in the OR, while we left and went to recovery. I started breastfeeding her as they were wheeling me into recovery. She stayed with me the entire time but I wasn't there for very long, maybe 15 minutes. She went with me to my room also.

This didn't happen with my first C-section, it was an emergency so I didn't get to bond at all with my oldest.

Never heard of that. I didn't even see my son for almost 3 hours after he was born besides a few seconds. And then didn't get to nurse him for about and hour after that cuz family was visiting. However, I successfully breastfed for 2 1/2 years.

I was shaking so bad after my c section i didnt want to hold her right away her father held her first I didnt breast feed a all either though i feel we bonded just fine after my shaking calmed down about half hour in recovery

same here! it was just one of those things that you had no control over :/

Yeah I breast fed my son after 1 hr and 15 minutes but not until I was sewn up, out of recovery and rolled into my room  

I think it just depends on the hospital/situation. When i delivered my oldest, they asked me if i wanted to breastfeed right in the recovery area, but i was in so much pain and exhausted that there was no way it was going to happen. I've personally never heard of breastfeeding *in* the OR, but I know most hospitals like mom and baby to be together as soon as they're moved out of the OR.

Aw I'm sorry   I know how you feel though with having my csection. I feel like I didn't experience labor and the birth of my son the way I should and its almost like I missed the whole experience with him being taken away.. I never of thought about the mamas who had vaginal births and had to have their babies taken away due to whatever reason...

That's awesome for your SIL though! Its actually starting to happen more and more so that ive seen/heard here! which is a great thing. I plan on doing this and delaying the first bath if I have to have another csection.

I wish my nurses would have given me this option! I was in no way expecting a csection so I had no idea what was allowed/ and what wasn't.

both times i was able to nurse within 30 min. not in the OR, but as soon as i was in the recovery room. and they encourage skin to skin for 4 hours after birth with mom and dad.

U need another option- no but wish I could've.
It was not an option during any of my csects in two different states. Hubby couldn't even cut cord. Reason they gave was "sterile field". The first I was knocked out so definitely no skin to skin and it took 5 hrs to wake up in recovery, get bak to my rm, wake up enough to "hold" my kid, and 7 more hrs for the meds to wear off so I could bf and hold her w.o falling asleep. My 2nd I was awake and it still took 2-1/2+ to hold her and bf. I was the last person to see/hold my girls.
