Mirena
posted 18th Jan
Would you recommend it? I've been oral contraceptives for 6 years and I hate having to remember to take a pill every day because I forget at least 3 pills a cycle. I'm not using it for birth control, as I'm not sexually active and haven't been for 2 years. But I have pretty bad endometriosis and the hormones help with the pain. So if you take Mirena or have taken it. Would you recommend it? And what were your side effects?

I just had mine removed last Saturday. I have had it for over 4 years and I had no side affects. but everyone is different.

Mirena works well for some, but it didn't work well for me. I gained 10 pounds in a year, I become moody and difficult to deal with, I had some pain upon insertion and then occasional pain afterwards. I also had some bleeding after "taking care of myself", sorry if that's TMI.
But the good side for me was that my periods were light and had little cramping and I didn't have to worry about taking a pill. I got off it and am back on the pill and glad I got it taken out.
However, it may work better for you. A lot of women have had it and loved it.

I would recommend it since you are NOT sexually active. I personally know a ton of people who have gotten pregnant on it. I'm sure it will help alot with your endometriosis because it makes your uterine liner thinner and thinner. Just if you have sex I would definitely use a condom too..

I got preg on it worst pregnancy ever for me, and I hd a baby with a birth defect, didn't scare me half as much as mirena did...
Since ur not using it for contraceptive, id say go for it!! Lol my periods were regular no cramping, I didn't gain or lose wieght and it was nice not haing to *remember* a pill everyday...

The only downside for me is the mood swings I've been having, other then that I love it, I've always had issues with having a heavy period with VERY horrible cramps, ever since I got it in october I only had heavy bleeding the first month and now I hardly have one at all and I don't get cramps at all. Its different for everyone though, the only way you'll know for sure is if you get it and experience it yourself. You can listen to all the horror stories and not get it, but they are just stories! you never know it could be one of the best choices you make to get it.

I had mine for 3 years and loved the crap out of it. My side effects were weight loss, no period, and a slight decrease in sex drive.

I would recommend it. I've had mine for a year. I did have some minor aches/pains, cramping & hair loss the first few months but that all subsided.
