Breastfeeding HELP!
posted 18th Jan
Hi there
I have a 7 week old little girl and I BF'd her for the first week but I had a v.traumatic labour and have had a very hard time since.
For the past 4 weeks I have been toying with BF'ing again and over the past 2 days have really decided I NEED to BF her again! I can squeeze a drop out of each boob so there is something in them still but I need to know how to get my milk supply up. I need ways to do it that aren't very stressful as I am still not in a great way and I don't want to flake out and give up again.
I am going to get an electric double pump and use that during the day and I will get fenugreek tablets but what else is there that has worked? And do you think it can work?
TIA!

Thanks
I have been trying this but every time I do she gets very angry and agitated... Should I do it even if it only for a few seconds at a time? Like every time she feeds before and after?

It can work if you're dedicated enough.
Drink loads of water, eat oatmeal, and put that baby on that booby as much as you can!

This plus what you said. That's about it.

Let her nurse as much as possible. You can watch videos on you tube for latching properly and different positions (including laying down) Just let suck suck suck. Even if its just for comfort. Mothers milk tea, lactation cookies (google a recipe) dark beer or brewers yeast. There is a pill called More Milk Special Blend (it has fenugreek, goats rue, and a few others in it) I bought mine on amazon. Make sure to nurse and pump between the house of 1am and 5am when your prolactin levels are the highest. Look into a supplemental nursing system so even when supplementing she is still at the breast sucking and stimulating. Best of luck mama.

Feed, feed, feed!! That is the most effective way to establish a supply. Even if your LO is just using you as a pacifier, let them. Also the typical stuff like mothers milk tea, lactation cookies, lots of water etc. Use lanolin cream every time the baby pulls off the nipple to keep it moisturized and help it heal. You may be very sore for the first few weeks because the baby wont be getting much milk and will want to be on the breast for very long periods of time. Put them on one side and let them pull themselves off the breast instead of you pulling the baby off, that means they are satisfied. Once they pull off the first, then offer the other breast. Also don't watch the clock, some babies can feed on one side for a long time, and if you watch the clock it can feel so tedious!
Good luck mama, congrats on trying to re-establish your breastfeeding relationship! If you have any questions feel free to PM me!

Yes!!! Try every single time. The more she suckled te more your body will trigger to produce for her.

Yay good for you
Like the other ladies said keep putting her on your boobs. Any nipple stimulation is better than none! Oatmeal (like porridge) is supposed to help too, plus if your on the combined pill that can hinder your milk supply so switch to the mini pill which just contains progesterone.
If you have a good health visitor you could always give her a call!
Plus I'm not far away from you if you really need someone

Thanks ladies it has been going well although DD wouldn't take to my breast as she I used to a teat so I bought some nipple shields and it worked!! She has been sucking away and I have been producing milk!!! I don't know how long it will take to get a good supply but I am getting there slowly so happy!!

Yay glad she's latching on well just slowly wean her off the shields and voila you will have a booby baby just keep putting her on, she'll probably want to feed loads to build your supply. Even if that means at some point she's constantly on the boob that's normal, even for a breastfed baby in the first place. I miss breastfeeding loads. DS is on bottles during the day as I'm back at work but still a boob monster at night so I look forward to night time booby cuddles
Definitely, I'm only in Newton, not far away at all
