Filling the void with fur babies?

posted 18th Jan
I was sitting here thinking.

Am I filling my baby void with pets?
I have two cats, 1 dog, two(was 3) rats.
If our apartment was bigger, I'd most likely be getting something else too, is husby would let me.

So I was just wondering, since I'm obvs glossing over my empty womb with furries, if anybody else did this too?

I have two cats. I wouldn't say I'm filling in a void with them but they do give me an outlet for all that nurturing.

Oh, most certainly.   One of the kitties is the only other female, and I probably baby her a bit TOO much    lol

I grew up in a veritable zoo, so I'm a little cautious about getting overwhelmed with animals. We have one cat... but I love animals and will have more once my kids are grown.

'We Bought A Zoo', would be my dream life, LOL
I've always preferred animals to kids, because when you're young, travel a lot, it's just easier.
But it's not the same. And now I'm worried it may be TOO much, and how am I going to spread all my attention to all the animals AND a baby.
Granted, unfortunately, ratties do not live very long lives, sad as it is
Then there is the argument all my friends give me. "Once a baby comes, it's different. You won't want to give your animals as much attention, and you'll love your child more, trust me, having a kid is so much different".
I beg to differ. My cats sure as heck act like kids!

I think it's fairly normal. I wouldn't say it's filling the baby void so much as fulfilling your instinctual need to nurture.

Quite possible. Nothing wrong with that, though. My husband did it to me...

We had been married for 2 years, and I started getting the baby itch...I was trying to convince him that it was time for a kid, he wanted to wait for awhile....

So he got me a dog. It definitely satisfied my babyless self until he was ready to start trying.

I've had a few people tell me that I'm not going to give my mice as much attention once the baby is here. I always say that I beg to differ. My mice ARE my little furry, tiny kids. Two of them are second generation tame house mice that were abandoned at a week old. I nursed them with a syringe every two hours, even at night. I cried when I rehomed the rest of the litter. And I'll be heart broken when they pass, haha.

Another rodent lover!
I recently lost my first rat, and mourned just like anybody else who loses a loved one. I had to bury him the day after Christmas.
And I feel the same about my animals. They ARE my children. Albeit, hairier then I hope my biological ones turn out to be. lol

Oh yes!
I wosh I could sell my husband on getting a rat, lol! I know he would fall in love instantly, especially since they're like the dogs of the rodent world (where as mice are like small kids high on crack with adhd, lmao) and much more...interactive.

We both adore our mice though. We have one that lives on her wheel. I've caught her running on it with a piece of food in her mouth (stopping to snack) and even sleeping on the damn thing. I habe to buy my girl Buttercup a ball because Peanut won't let her on the wheel
