Spiders!!!! Today was a ridiculously hot day and earlier tonight I was sitting on the floor in my lounge room playing with the kids and my daughter goes "ohh mummy don't touch the spider" pointing to the lounge.

It was a small redback. Gross, whatever it wasn't that big, I killed it (not thinking much of it because we normally find a spider or two in the house on a hot a day), checked the kids over and told SO .... Then he said "oh well if it was small it was probably a baby so there's most likely more in here somewhere"  Now i'm freaking out that there's more hiding somewhere, maybe in the lounge i'm sitting on right now and it's giving me the creeps. My hair keeps brushing my back and arms and I keep flinching thinking like there's one crawling on me lol.

I'm being dumb and overly paranoid right? One little spider doesn't mean there's heaps of them in here does it?

I've had a feedback inside. An adult. I freaked the smurf out.

They don't live near each other though, do one usually is all. I do know they have tons of babies. The adults are pretty small, hopefully it was an adult.
The web it was in was very sticky, the whole thing terrifies me. I'd personally look under everything in your house. They build messy sticky webs under stuff.

Oh that's comforting that there's usually only one (I tried google but couldn't find if one means there's more around) I tore the lounge apart looking for more and didn't find any webs.

I'm hoping that it was just that one brought in from outside, because SO was working on a car where there was a huge fat redback under the hood. He brought his tools inside when he was done so maybe it came in on them. That or our dog who I let inside today because of the heat (he's always under the house which most likely has heaps of spiders)

I did find a site that said babies are white or have a white dot on their back so I think it must've been an adult. UGGHHH I keep feeling like something is crawling on me. I need to stop looking at these websites with pictures of spiders lol.

After my incident I looked at websites for hours. I do think the babies look different. Maybe it was a female? Or male? One is smaller.
I'd never seen one irl before, but when I saw it there was no doubt what it was, I literally freaked out. They look scary. They like dry places. I leave daddy long legs inside because I think they are enemies?
The web was weird too, really messy and really strangely sticky. I hate spiders.
HATE. And they're my worst, followed by white tails.

It says males are smaller. I hope it was I don't want to find a big nest, yuck. White tips too ... ugh we've found like 4 in the house this month (freaking hate summer it brings all the spiders and bugs out)

... Oh and funnel webs (those are my #1 that I hate). At my mums house my brother found a funnel web hole or whatever in the ground poured petrol down it and all these babies (huge bloody things for babies) came out and the weirdo caught them all and put them in a container. That was a year or two ago and i'm still paranoid about them when the kids play in her backyard.

I'm the same with daddy long legs too lol. I tell SO and my daughter to leave them alone because they are harmless and kill other spiders.

Lol at tipping petrol down a hole. That is such a random Aussie thing to do.

Lol it is. I found a hole in the yard the other day and asked SO if he thought it was a spider hole, first thing he does is go grab the jerry can and pour petrol down it.

I couldn't believe my brother though. He showed me them all in the container and I just looked at him like he was nuts. He's lucky he didn't get bitten while catching them, he's crazy.

 

This is why I don't want to move to Australia. You guys have the Sopranos of the animal kingdom, all teeth and fangs and claws and poison. That smurf is terrifying.
