I was told it's not safe to BF if you have food poisoning. Most other illnesses are okay but I'm pretty sure they said no go to food poisoning, it passes through the milk.

I'm pretty sure that as long as the bacteria hasn't entered your bloodstream then breastfeeding is safe. Every time I have been hospitalized with a bfing baby, they were allowed to stay with me.

You probably have the norovirus, not food poisoning. You will start to feel better by about 24 hours and it's usually completely gone by 48 hours. It sucks, but you will survive! Breastfeeding the baby is the best protection you can give, as your breasts produce antibodies specific to whatever germs are in the baby's mouth, as well as to whatever illnesses you have. I've had it twice, six weeks ago and last week. Man it sucks. Just drink gatorade and whine. At least, that's what I did. It's pretty contagious; I hope your LO doesn't get it too.
