how much worse does it get the second+ time around?

posted 18th Jan
I breastfed my daughter for 18 months, and it took a toll on my boobs. They got smaller, and they got saggy. I'm just curious, does it get even worse the second (or third etc.) time around? Are my boobs going to get even smaller and saggier? lol.

What was your experience?

same thing happened after my first and bfing my second actually made it better and it never got bad again even after number 3. I think it may have had something to do with the fact that my first baby cut me off cold turkey one day but my second and third babies weaned off.

I tried to breastfeed the first time, but couldn't. She never did latch on. I didn't try with my son, but with my third, we got it. It didn't hurt at all, and my boobs didn't get smaller, nor did they sag any more. Now, I'm expecting #4, and my boobs got bigger again. I'm actually afraid of them getting bigger after the baby's born.

My friend's boobs disappeared after her first, to the point where she got implants. With her next two, her boobs expanded and now she's going, why did I get implants? So it could get better, you never know.
My boobs haven't changed much one way or the other.

Breastfeeding has nothing to do with it. They've done studies on it & women who do or don't breastfeed report sag at the same rate. it is only that breastfeeding women see their sag later since it is delayed due to nursing. the things that impact breast sag are rapid weight gain & loss, how many pregnancies you've had, age, lifestyle stuff like smoking & exercise and genetics. In theory , they say if anything, breastfeeding would prevent a certain amount of sag. It promotes the growth of new ductal tissue, which isn't heavy & prone to causing sag like fat is. It also it prevents full blown engorgement which can stretch your tissue out. The real culprit is relaxin though. You have connective tissue & tendons in your breasts. So wear a good supportive bra during pregnancy or that lovely chemical that helps baby get out that pelvis by letting those tendons stretch also allows your boobie tendons to give way as well.

How? I produced SO much milk with my daughter, because she wanted to nurse every 1-3 hours, so my boobs were always full it seemed like. So the skin got all stretched out, making them saggy. I hated being that engorged all the time, it was SO annoying feeling and painful. I think my lactation consultant called it hyperlactation. She actually was on board with my idea of supplementing with formula every other feeding to make my body slow down a little because it was so bad, and she's a HUGE breastfeeding advocate lol.

Did you do block feeding - like one breast for 4 hrs & then switch/ That usually will do it. Sometimes you have to go to 6 hrs & use cabbage leave in between.

Yep I did everything I could. I really hope that doesn't happen this time, made me really not enjoy breastfeeding.

Dont pump within the first few months unless you are away and miss a feeding...your milk regulates after like 3-4 months....if you pump and pump before that in addition to meals you get an oversupply.

I had an oversupply and didnt pump....I was engorged quite a few times....hoping it didnt do too much damage

Have you seen this - and tried things like sage too? I am just hoping I can find you something you haven't tried to give you hope that if you do find yourself there again, that there is something new you can try.

Did any of the stuff you did help at least some?
