Holy smurf.

posted 18th Jan
I just got home from work, the front door was open to our apartment (within a complex)
i walk in and the lights are off, baby gates open, logans door open and our bedroom door closed. a few things crossed my mind, rick and logan went somewhere? rick went out for a ciggarette-but where is logan? idk
i just say "Rick??" and i see logan (naked) open our bedroom door, rick lying in bed. logan just said "daddys sweepin"

like...what the smurf?
rick went to bed without closing the gates or locking the door? logan must have been roaming the complex naked (not the first time) if the door was open...
I tested to see if he could open the new gates just now...he couldnt.

damn like, what the hell was rick thinking?
good think logan didnt know there was snow outside, im pretty sure he is big enough to open the building doors too now   he would have been excited to go out...
not to mention if logan was in our bedroom, what the hell why wouldnt rick get up and put him back to bed?

i cant wake rick up, tomorrow is his first day at work and he is stressed, but omg im gonna flip on him tomorrow.
i cant believe this,

That is really scary!! What if little man just walked outside and walked away?!
Maybe Rick left the gates open and Logan did get out and opened the front door himself? DD used to do that but I was always right there, child locked them asap after that.

Holy smurf. I'd be terrified. What if he got into dangerous stuff, got kidnapped wandering around or got lost. I'd be freaking out.

my nephew got out of the house one day when he was 14 months old. out of my husband's grandparents house. mom thought he was in the yard, nana thought he was with mom... slipped right out in just a onesie and diaper. a nice guy found him down the street at a gas station and walked up and down the street looking for his home. could have ended very badly! too scary

So scary. It happens too easily.
Happened with my LO once because he was SO good at escaping. Someone brought him back within 10 minutes but we had been frantically searching for him.

Now he's 4 1/2 and I still don't like him out of my sight
There was an attempted abduction this week a few blocks away from me :/

I know! ricks mom said rick himself pulled a stunt like that when he was three, someone driving by found him in the middle of the road in his pjs.

like what the SmUrf?

Rick knows he can open the door, except with the chain lock but he probably left that open so i could get in.
why leave the baby gate open????

not to mention when logan was a baby baby i read a story about a two year old being lost and eventually they found him-dehydrated to death in a dry ravine thing. he must have been so scared...so lost, so alone.

at the time i only knew my brother who was that age, and it broke my heart thinking about someone like my little brother getting lost like that.

and its so easy to happen.

a siren or firetruck, anything....i swear if he knew there was snow he would have gone out. not sure maybe he even did and it was too cold because he was naked.
one comfort is he knows his way around the resort, and its mostly good people here, they do background checks before letting someone in.
i think the worst that might have happened is someone call the cops, WHICH WE DESERVE >

That's crazy, good thing your son was ok. A few months ago my parents and I were hanging out in our kitchen when we saw a little toddler (about 20 months old) walking down our street by himself, we ran out to get him and recognized him from down the street. Turns out his mother put him down for a nap and they had people over and he managed to slip out without anyone noticing. I was so glad we found him, something terrible could have happened, too many sickos in this world

omg i almost died at our family reunion, logan disappeared. he was there one second, i was talking to someone then he was gone. there were a bunch of kids running around (mostly my dads) and a playground 50 feet away so i didnt think too much of it at first, just looking under tables and asking people if they saw him, but minute after minute and nothing....
a few more minutes and the whole reunion was a search party.

my dad found him at another playground, he went through a feild and small wooded area (about 300 yds) just to get to this other playground. you could hardly see it from where we were!

i was just shocked because earlier in the day he wouldnt leave my side, he was scared because all the people.

Yeah, crazy things like this happen. Apparently I escaped my house when I was 2 and my sister's friends found me on my street. Kids are sneaky.

I was picking my daughter up from her dad one day, and when I turned onto his street and got closer to his house, DD was running around in circles in the middle of the street wearing nothing but a pull up. I was pissed because her dad was still asleep inside his house.

I wanted to. What made it worse was that I KNEW he had a chain on the front door(he stayed in the house we rented while we were married...I couldn't afford the bills for it on my own). I have heard many cases where kids have gotten out like that...most turn out okay, but there are some that have very tragic endings. Thankfully my daughter is 5 now and knows not to open doors like that. We have a deadbolt that I have trouble opening sometimes, so I know she can't, and our other door has a bolt that she can't reach.
