I've been hearing it is okay and then it isn't. I personally don't want to get the flu shot because I rarely ever get sick (maybe once or twice a year.) But what do you ladies think? Have you gotten the flu shot while pregnant or would you?

I didn't get the shot nor will I get the shot. Never have before either.

I got mine while pregnant & everything was fine. My OB's office gave me the Flu shot actually & the whooping cough shot.

It's fine to get it while pregnant. My doctor recommends it. Although, I will never get it again. Get it if you want, it's safe.

I didnt get it because I didnt know that I should have gotten it. My LO was born in September and is 4 months old during the height of flu season. My pediatrician at LO's first appt was like "Why didnt you get it?!? It helps protect them". Oh well, you live and you learn.

The Flu was never a big worry for me before pregnancy and having LO. Now I'm worried about it. I'd get it if I was in your shoes. Pregnant women, elderly, young children and people with certain health conditions are more susceptible to severe consequences of the flu.

I did. But I wouldn't have if I'm not pregnant. The vaccin will be working for my baby after she is born which is late winter early spring so still a lot of flue going around. My little girls get it every year, but I haven't been. I guess its weird, but I know I can get through it better then they can. Being pregnant changes that right now tho. My girls had a simple cold and they gave it to me and it turned into strep throat and lerengitis, then I gave it to my husband and he gets a regular cold. Pregnant woman can get sick a lot worse.

The swine flu was crazy when I was pregnant. They tried to force the shot on me and I refused. That shot, they JUST made a few months prior and it wasn't properly tested, eff that.
I didn't get the regular flu shot either. I've also never had the flu, ever.

Does anyone think it's odd that they tell pregnant women to try to stay away from fish during pregnancy because of mercury, and then try to force them to get a flu shot that is full of it?

OP, I never got the flu shot while pregnant... or not pregnant. lol

Pregnant or breastfeeding women get the mercury-free shot. Not sure why mercury is in the normal shot.

You can have fish just not a lot! WIth everything you have to outweigh the pros and cons. Everything will have benefits and risks.

Personally I would say the BEST time to get it is while you ARE pregnant because then you pass the antibodies to the baby which is great because they have really weak immune systems.

I thought that the pregnancy flu shot was mercury free?

I'm getting mine tomorrow, my friends 12 week old is in the hotpital with the flu   I got it last time I was pregnant and had no issues

Preservative. You know, cause people need that in their bodies. lol

The flu shot while pregnant has been linked to an increase in miscarriage. Also, was reading this article today about the flu vaccine. Even if it were safe, and it's not, it's ineffective. Vitamin D, however, has been found to be effective at preventing flu. I take 5000-10000 IU daily myself.
