It is effective, but not to ALL strains of the flu. Each year they try to "predict" which strains will be most prevalent & put it into the shot...so sometimes like this year the flu that is going around they didn't put in the shot because they didn't think it would be prevalent like it is.

The multi dose vaccines do have mercury because it's a preservative and it's supposed to help kill bacteria?...

It does still have trace amounts of mercury, about 3mcg.
