my 6 month old is a scaredy cat!

posted 17th Jan
she is turning 6 months on sunday and she is scared of everything, new people, new noises... and i would say she has been antisocial since she is 2 months old. Anyone else experiencing the same thing.. When i first mentionned it to my practionner she said oh yeah there would be a problem if she wasnt scared at all of strangers.... but now i find it hard to hang out with anyone because she will get so upset and it breaks my heart

Totally normal. My DS would cry even around family until 13 mo. Just assure her that everything is ok and don't force her to be held ny anyone else etc if she is upset. It will get better

She's 6 months old.. At 2 months old they can barley see a few feet from them if that. She's alert to more things and it's a phase, DD went through that and at times is still scared of noises/people. DH looked at her earlier and in a normal voice said Boo and she jumped.

Lmao @ scaredy cat and antisocial.

She's a baby. Everything in the world is new and different to her. Sounds like she's just being a baby to me. They all go through phases of "stranger danger", separation anxiety, and being scared of random things.

My oldest was scared of the vacuum until she was 4. They all have their quirks.

I used to have to hold my daughter while I vacuumed, or else do it while she was napping. She would scream something fierce. My son never even flinched when I would vacuum. In fact, there's not much he seemed to be afraid of. But he did go through the "stranger danger" phase. New people freaked him out for a while.

Sorry if I came off snappish, my hormones levels have been off today lol. It took me by surprise seeing a 6 month old being called that. The ladies on here gave you good advise. DS went through a phase at around that age. She will grow out of it, just give her time.

hmm... DD isn't afraid of anything. she's not afraid of vacuuming (she actually likes the vacuum and often falls asleep when i do it while she's awake) and she's not at all afraid of strangers. she's very social and meets almost everyone with a big smile and giggle.

I understand. My best friends DS is afraid of everything and he will be 2 in Feb. She was the same way growing up, but her DH is mean to him about it, so I guess I am a bit defensive too. Her DH calls him that, but he means it in a bad way. I grew up around lots of babies, and I was still nervous about everything when my DS was an infant. I questioned everything lol. Honestly I think I drove my doctors crazy. No one really knows how to be a parent untill they are one. Its definately a learning curve. Just hang in there hun, it will get easier with time.

DS is also a chicken smurf. The sound of laughter terrifies him   One time, when he was about 4 months old, he was chilling out on the floor watching TV, I came around the corner, and in a normal voice I said, "hi"...he jumped and started crying...silly baby. He's 7 months old now, and isn't AS scared of everything, other than if someone laughs while holding him.
