Weaning cold turkey
posted 17th Jan
I know it's not recommended to wean from breastfeeding cold turkey but that's just how it ended up happening for us.
How long did it take for your milk to stop coming in once your baby stopped nursing?
I know some people still make a small amount of milk for awhile, but I'm mainly concerned about the engorgment. It's so painful but I've been hand expressing very minimally when I take a shower.

Maybe pump and decease how much you pump over-time to help your milk dry up more comfortably? I know that some people get breast infections from stopping too fast. My friend did anyway. :[

I weaned Owen pretty much cold turkey and I dried up really quick. It's probably different for me though b/c I did it while pregnant, and he was already 2 years old, and not nursing as often as a newbie would.

u weaning natalie or lilly? i weaned both my kids pretty early and i didn't really get engorged, just expressed in the shower and it went away day by day. also those cold things you put in your bra are nice!
oh and i answered my own question because duh, if you were weaning lilly you would obviously be weaning natalie haha.

Yeah I weaned Lilly when she was 18.5 months. Natalie's 10 weeks today. She's always had to use a nipple shield to latch and a couple days ago she just wouldn't even latch to that anymore so now were doing full time formula.

Took me 2 weeks of HOT baths while expressing a little milk every bath. It wasn't as bad with my last as it was with my other 2 as far as engorgement, and my last one I breastfed the longest(just over a month, I've always had trouble attempting to breastfeed and with my last I had to use a pump every single time to feed her, could never get any of my kids to latch on properly)
