Which doctor?

Probably none of you know my situation, but long story short. I was born with extra skin/fat around my pubic area, can't lose weight there or fix it other than surgery. (Even after a few years of trying.) Also, I lost a ton of weight but there are extra spots that I can't get rid of due to the weight loss, it's causing medical issues down in that area. I talked to my insurance and they told me that they would cover surgery to reduce and lift if I get a referral from a doctor. But like an idiot, I didn't ask what doctor I needed to go to. My primary care doctor? or an OBGYN? Because it IS causing problems in that area.

I would ask an GYN if that where the issue is and is causing even more issues. I'm assuming they could best asses it.
Hopefully you can get it medically approved and not have it considered cosmetic!

My thoughts as well.

ETA: if your GYN can't for whatever reason, I would ask them who could or contact your insurance company to find out exactly who they need a referral from.

I think both of them are able to write a referral for you. If you don't have your primary doc check your business i'd go to your obgyn who is more updated on your situation. And don't be embarrassed I don't think it's that rare. I used to watch those plastic surgery shows and seen it there more than once. You can't change or help how you were made. I think it's awesome they are going to pay for the surgery though! Good luck to you!!!!!
