hospital appointment??
posted 17th Jan
So i know they do things different in the us during the uk so any help is welcome so at my 20 week scan they booked me an appointment to go back to hospital if i become over due.. My midwife said its to book an induction date.. But people i know who have had babies say they dont offer to induce you unless they tried to bring on labour by a sweep ill only be 40+2 at my appointment tomorrow so do you think they will set me an induction date &if the sweep dont work then i just turn up for the induction?? I dont know how these things work.. Im not sure they will give me a sweep but a few people have told me to be prepared for one.. My midwife is useless &doesnt tell me alot its like she just wants to get rid of me.. She doesnt wanna see me this week as i have the hospital appointment &all she said if you havent given birth by next week then she will see me.. So has anyone had the sweep or the same appointment at the hospital so i know what to expect? Sorry for any spellings, im on my phone

I went overdue with my youngest and had the sweep wich was unsucessful so was made to go into hospital for the induction they said if i didn't go into labour naturally by the 27th of august i would have to go in where they basically stuck me on the maternity ward and kept giving me pesseries til i dilated enough for them to break my waters and start the picotin my midwife was useless also always messing up tests and was never available to see me

Not UK but with my first, at my first visit they told me they wouldnt talk of induction until 40 weeks and if it was necessary then itd be scheduled after 41. they did two membrane sweeps on me and i hadnmy daughter at 39w5d. At my first visit this time they told me they wouldnt discuss an induction until 38 weeks and if i elected to have one done it wouldnt be scheduled until 40 weeks.
You dont HAVE to have an induction done just because they say theyll do it. Unless theyre encouraging it for a medical reason. I would have them do everything possible to try to start labor before i would accept a nonmedically needed induction - just my opinion.

Ive heard alot.of people that sweeps didnt work for them so im not getting my hopes up.. What do they do? Does it hurt? X

I wouldn't say it hurt was just uncomfortable it can work for some people but not all I hope it works for you though being induced isn't too bad it's just the waiting around that gets annoying so make sure you take plenty of reading material

Plus induction in the US seems to be different from the uk they want u to dilate 1st in the uk then they will break you're waters and start u on the hormone drip but iv heard in the US they do the hormone drip before using the pesseries to dilate the cervix

Dont worry i have loads of new books on my kindle on the go incase i have to be induced aha.. I hope it does work, dont really want it but im gonna give it a try if they let.me have one as i dont want to be induced.. But also if she doesnt come by the induction date they give me ill go ahead.. I dont mind what i go through as long as my little girl comes out safely &healthy then im not to bothered i dont know if the hospital will offer me a sweep but im just preparing my self &reading up on what to expect but ive read that it has failed for majority of people so knowing my luck it wont work x

Don't be so negative i prefered my induction to my natural birth that one lasted 36 hours the induction lasted 4 hours once the drip was started i'd like a water birth with this one though aslong as they get here fine it's all that matters right you'll be fine and get to meet you're little girl finally x
