Losing 10 lbs in a week is not good. 2 a week is what the goal should be.

I've never tried hummus, I'm afraid to

It's good! You can use it on sandwiches or as a dip. I'm sure there are other ways to use it too but those are the only two I've tried.

I feel like a smoothie would be too many calories   and just regular fruit isn't indulgent enough

That's the way my body gains and loses. I have gained up to 12 lbs in one weekEND, many times. Then generally it comes back off after a week. Not starving by any means. I eat breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. I eat 1300-1400 cals a day. I dont mean to lose like that, it just happens. But then it tapers off and just... stops for a while.

Cutting down your meat AND carb intake is not a very good idea. I would stick with lighter meats like chicken, fish, and pork. They digest easier and eating a lot of protein will get your body into fat burning mode.

You need protein and eating meat once a day isn't going to cut it unless you're eating other protein dense foods such as beans and nuts. Even with nuts, 1-2 handfuls a day should be good. There's nothing wrong with eating meat, its the type of meat you're eating that matters. Cut the pork, cut the red meat. Stick with lean chicken (if the chicken breasts is thick, cut it half long ways), different types of fish. Salmon is great. Don't be afraid of seasoning your meat with something like Mrs. Dash, its fine. There's no need to eat bland.

Yes but I just don't think cutting down her meat to once a day is a good idea. If she sticks with leaner meats that are easier to digest, then she should be okay. She just needs to be careful on her calorie intake too. Make sure she's eating enough and doesn't go into starvation mode.

I saw you mentioned pork. Pork is not healthy and is not easy to digest.

I burned almost 600 calories on the recumbent bike this morning. My legs are jelly.
