No worries!
Being a convicted felon, I know my views differ greatly. I'm always curious to know how people feel about these kinds of things.

No, because I believe this is step 1 to a bigger plan. I understand there are people who think it is so great in the UK and Australia with their super strict gun laws (and from what I have been told on BG very very few guns period in their country), but they are also free to move somewhere like that. We have the 2nd amendment is something a lot of people feel strongly about. There would be a huge backlash (and a lot of illegal guns still out there since criminals and quite a few gun owners would not turn their guns over).

This is somewhat off-topic, but I feel like there need to be classifications of felonies. My uncle's life was ruined because of the felony drug charge he was convicted of. He could only ever get a job in construction. Eventually, his body gave out and he couldn't physically do construction anymore. He was never able to find a job, especially in this smurffy economy, with that stamp attached to him. People don't take the time to ask you, "why are you a felon?" they just assume you are scum and move on. He was sober for YEARS after that charge, but it didn't matter. Not being able to gain independence made him severely depressed until he killed himself.

I dunno how to explain it without going all over the place...
Getting your rights suspended isn like a slap on the wrist. To then go out and get caught with any projectile weapon is like you sticking your tongue out at the government going "neener wiener, I don't give a smurf." At that point, it's more evident how much of a danger you are to the community. Even a violent offender can get a presidential pardon, but it takes much longer. And people convicted of rape, murder and other especially heinous violent crimes of that nature can never obtain a presidential pardon, especially if the crime was committed when the defendent was illegal or had renounced their citizenship.

I agree. I think more consideration should also be put into how long it's been since the date of last conviction and/or release from a correctional facility. They say "do the crime, do the time" but in this dayn and age, you can do your time and still suffer for a lifetime. However, I do think some stricter impositions need to be made on repeat and violent offenders.

I support the more extensive background check, I don't think everyone can be trusted with a gun. But I just worry it is step 1 to an ultimate plan to try to all but rid the US of guns. I have seen it mentioned numerous times since the CT shooting and it happens after almost every publicized shooting.

Gotcha. TBH, the only experience I have with any of it is from my fiances friend. He was convicted of OUI 4 times ( a whole other discussion) and that is a felony. Hes not allowed to own weapons or hunt, which is a very big deal here.

It's a right that needs to be earned in many circumstances, in my opinion. I'm afraid that it's leading towards criminalizing the ownership of guns myself. I'm not sure I can see it going that far without some kind of uprising though. It's still a very scary reality that we may be facing.

I can imagine. Hunting is a huge part of the lifestyle in Maine and Alaska. Hell, I'm from Florida and it's always been a huge part of my life. I miss hunting. I especially miss my compound bow. Thhat thing was baby. BUT I smurfed up. I'm just glad that my felony only suspended me on a state level. My lawyer said it can take up to 20 years to get a presedential pardon.

The people in that news articles in NY were already criminalized. Sex offenders are tracked and their information is public for the safety of the public. These law abiding gun owners were treated like criminals and their information was put out, it completely made them seem like a danger to their neighbors IMO.
