It happens on Catfish all the time. Some people use distance as an excuse when they are lying. I think it is entirely possible. Some people want to believe that the person they are talking to is real so they ignore red flags others may see. I wouldn't ever do it, but I know a friend who talked to her DH on the computer only (no phone calls, no video chat, etc) for 18 months. In her case he was real and hadn't lied and they have been married for 3 years. But for each real story there is at least one fake one.

He came to ND on December 26th saying he got a call from his dead girlfriends number and was a victim of a hoax. We are hearing about it now, after Notre dame concluded their investigation on jan. 4th only because deadspin did their research and couldn't find anything that made since. TBH, I don't think Olivia Pope can even work her magic on this. The truth will come out eventually.

My husband & I talked strictly online and on the phone for 2.5 years before we met. I even lied to friends a few times about us meeting before we really did, because I didn't want to get made fun of. We've now been together almost 8 years, married almost 4 years. It's not that unusual nowadays. Maybe he lied about meeting her too? Especially being in the media...

And after watching catfish the movie & show, some people are insane and live completely different lives online. It's crazy how far some people on the show got fooled!

I totally get that part! I'm just saying I don't know where any student athlete finds time for 8 hour phone conversations while maintaining a gap high enough for eligibility, especially at an Ivy League school. It makes little sense to me. Hopefully he can clear this up because even his team mates doubted the legitimacy of his gf.

That's true. You'd think he wouldn't have time for a gf during a time like that! I really hope he didn't know...that would be so smurfed up if he was in on it.

I have agreed with your last two posts except for the bolded part. The majority of his closest teammates are standing behind him. ONE has stated publicly that they doubted the situation (since I last looked.) And he wouldn't even admit who he was when he gave the interview.

I have to wonder how he would have had the time to pull off such an intricate plan while being a collegiate athlete and maintaining a 3.4 GPA at Notre Dame.

I will fully admit that I am a huge fan of Manti Teo. I have been since he was recruited out of highschool. I've literally followed this kid since he was 17 years old. lol

Whether he was in on it or not, I'm appalled as a fan by how many people discredit him as a football player over this. His "hoax" had nothing to do with his
7 interceptions
113 Tackles
2 fumble recoveries
ability to read an offense and missing TWO, only TWO, tackles all season.

Call him crazy.
Call him delusional.
He is still a damn fine football player.
