Bleeding

posted 17th Jan
So I'm 5 weeks PP today...a couple times now my lochia has tapered off to almost nothing and then suddenly increased again. I haven't been doing anything strenuous, just taking it easy...the most activity I've done is going to the store. No sex or anything.

I'm just wondering if this is normal or I should be concerned...It got pretty heavy a couple days ago and this morning I soaked through a pad in two hours. No clots or anything, just heavy bleeding. I guess it's possible I started my period but I'm EBF so I didn't think that was likely. I did have a postpartum hemorrhage - I don't know if that makes a difference. I have an appointment with my doctor on the 23rd...should I just wait until then?

I always got my first pp period at 6 weeks pp. I breastfed all 3 of my boys. That doesn't always happen, but it can. As far as the bleeding goes, bleeding can come and go up to 8 weeks pp. The longest I bled after delivery was 9 weeks. I did have some retained tissue though and it had to be monitored by U/S and stuff.

I'm not a dr so i'm not going to say whether or not you should talk to yours before your appointment. I think that if we're asking that question though, it's normally worth calling the dr.

I'm also five weeks post partum today and I also have my appointment on the 23rd! My lochia flow comes and goes just like yours does too. Last week I wondered if I was getting my period because the bleeding was very heavy and now it's almost nothing. I'm also breastfeeding and I'm wondering if this is just post partum bleeding how will I know when it is my period....of course this only applies to if my bleeding does not stop.
