Here is my breast:

I have unresolved mastitis. I took my first round of antibiotics (Amoxicillin, which i found out later is almost always ineffective for mastitis) on 1/2 and ended last Wednesday. By then the first clog and another clog i had gotten along with the first was gone, but on that day I got another huge clog. It's progressively gotten MUCH WORSE as you can see and the redness on my breast spreads up to my collarbone almost. I started taking 1000 mg per day of Keflex on Tuesday. My breast didn't look as bad as it does now on that day. Yesterday the redness spread and it felt more inflamed. Today I woke up crying because of the pain (but that's been every morning the last few days), I have a low grade fever (didnt have one before), and I can barely lift my arm because my entire breast feels so heavy and painful. A few days ago i was determined to get the clog out and spent an hour pumping, massaging, compressing, applying moist heat, and hand expressing.....it didnt get any better but i did squeeze out a tiny bit of yellow, sticky substance from my nipple. The next day was when it got much worse. So should I go to the ER or wait another day for the antibiotics to start working.

I'm in so much pain and terrified :'(

It's time to go to the doctor (and ER if they are not available)  .

You may need IV antibiotics at this point.

I'm so sorry and I hope it heals quickly.

Can you make it in to see a doctor? I would do that first and see if they advise sending you to the ER. Good luck, that looks painful

Can you go take a super hot shower & pump at the same time.

The warmth along with your massage & the pumping should help release the clog.

Good luck. I hope you feel better soon

I would go! My sister had mastitis and it wasnt getting any better so the dr did an ultrasound and found a little cyst and he has to drain it and a few days later she was in horrible pain still and went back and they found out she had MRSA in her boob and had to get surgery and stay in the hospital for a few days.

I've done everything I could possibly do to get this thing out....kellymom and Dr. Sears and Google have been my go to for what to do. I really think the clog is too big at this point. It takes up 1/3 of my breast at least.

Uugh I so remember having that with my last child & it painfully "SUCKED". Nonthing I did helped not even the antibiotics. Last result I came to did help. I took a cabbage leaf & an ice pack & put it on both breast tucked inside my sports bra and it let down my milk, took away the swelling & all. I felt so releived. I didn't do it for long cause I didn't want my milk to dry in my breast.

Oh god

I think I'm going to schedule to see an OB at the nearby hospital tomorrow. I've been working with LCs, but I really think I either need a shot of antibiotics or at least an ultrasound to assess it better. I've heard ultrasounds can help break them up as well. I'm in so much pain at this point, that I would welcome someone poking a needle in my boob to drain it.
