re: Crib bumpers unsafe?? Well Im not yet convinced, lets talk.

My mom used them with me and my brother.
I used one with my son and I will be using one with this baby.
I personally haven't heard of anyone having issues with them.
Sure, it happens.. but how often?

IMO, it's much safer than my child's arm or leg getting stuck, hurt &/or bruised to hell.

I used them but I can see how they could be unsafe, the material usually isn't very breathable and they are stuffed. If a baby rolls over, their face is pressed against the bumper and they can't roll back over they could suffocate. My kids weren't big movers in their sleep though so I wasn't super worried about it.

We used breathable bumpers for our kids. They prevented them from getting limbs caught. But as everyone has said it's your child so it is your choice.

The media didn't make children suffocate via rebreathing when they didn't have the motor functions to get their face out of their blanket. You should thank the media for making you more aware of risks so your child has a higher survival rate when it comes to risks of SIDS.

Would you be able to forgive yourself if you had bumpers and blankets because you thought it was all crap, and your child became a victim of rebreathing?

I haven't heard of this before. Is there a link to info at all? I have only heard of the suffocation risk when the bumpers become dettached   I had considered myself well informed on their safe use.

At what point does the risk of SIDS go down/away?

I'm on my phone, but google "bumpers and rebreathing".

DD just started sleeping in her crib. She loves putting her hands/feet between the bars, and pressing her head against them. And she hasn't hurt herself. If we had crib bumpers, she would be pressing her face up against them and that's a much scarier concept IMO.. However, if she keeps up stick her hands and feet in, I might get bumpers when she's older so she doesn't get stuck

I am glad you gave your opinion, and that is exactly why I am looking at every angle of safety for my son, I am not interested in cute that would be silly,
but I realize other reasons for crib bumpers where originally safety.
I also know that children have died from allergies, from bug bites, from water, and also car fumes, but I still drive my car? you know, just take the precautions necessary to make sure this does not effect breathing or health.
You are very right childs safety comes first but I prefer to try and think it through sensibly before jumping on the frightened bandwagon.
Once again though I appreciate your opinion and posting, and hope you do not mind my blunt answer!

My daughter still got her limbs stuck and I had bumpers lol. I don't know what she did in her sleep, but I'd wake up sometimes to arms and legs sticking through the bars, under the bumpers.

Bug bites - uncontrollable
You're specifically told not to give your infant water
Car fumes - anyone who runs a car in an enclosed environment is at risk of death. Driving your car has nothing to do with that.
