For parents with older kids

When did you start letting your kids watch scary movies? My 9 year old (she'll be 10 in June) LOVES scary movies and I've let her see some of them. She wants me to take her to see Mama this weekend and I'm considering it since it's PG-13. I would first read about it on IMDB and see what makes it PG-13. I saw all the scary movies when I was that age. She's very mature and doesn't get scared easily or get nightmares. She loves them and begs me to see all of them. Obviously I don't let her see the ones with nudity or tons of cussing. Also, how old were you when you started watching scary movies?

I didn't start seeing scary movies until I was the appropriate age in the rating. At least. My mom didn't let me see PG-13 until I was at least 13, and so on. I will cross that bridge when I get there with my kids (6 and 2) but I can't imagine I'll let them see movies like that at that age.

My son watches them and he will be 6 soon.

She started seeing certain ones like Poltergeist at that age (it's rated PG). I think it depends on the child and how well they handle it. Some kids cannot handle it at all. What ones does he like?

He will watch Paranormal Activity, and other gorey things. I mean of course I look it up first before he watches it.

Same here. I look it up as well. I took her to see Mama on Friday and she loved it!
