feces ingested?

posted 17th Jan
My three year old has been sticking her hand in her diaper a lot lately and down the back side to touch or scratch her anus I'm assuming and then kind of touches her nose to smell it I guess? Anyways recently she did this right after having a bowel movement (she's in diapers still) and had feces on her fingers so I help her wash her hands to make sure they get completely clean and explain to her why its bad and she shouldn't do it (touch her poopy).

I usually catch her bowel movements right after she goes but this last time she even had touched her chin with it on her fingers and I'm not sure if she got it in her mouth. She is delayed and greatly delayed in speech so she can't even tell me or understand exactly what I'm asking her to nod or say yes or no.

She's sick now, has been throwing up since 10 pm and cannot keep anything down. She goes to preschool where she receives therapy and I was thinking she picked up a virus but then thought about this and I'm kind of worried if she got it in her mouth that it made her sick? Is that something that happens easily?

Poop is toxic so if she's getting sick i'd take her to the hospital

My son is also very delayed in speech and not PT'd yet at a little over 3.

He has stuck his hand in his pants several times and then sucked his thumb while there was poop on there. He didn't get sick, but he had poop on his face and in his nails.

It was disgusting. And unless she ingested a lot, there isn't anything they will do. I'm sure you gave her something to drink and brushed her teeth. So that's about that.

We broke the habit by keeping him in a onsie aside from baths for about 2 months. He is little so the 24 month size worked fine. Although they do sell onsie extenders on Amazon.

Wow so you've been there too, thanks so much I'm thinking that's a great idea.

Yes, sadly. I don't know if he was oblivious to the taste, because it didn't deter him at all.

If she can't undo zip pajamas that's an option too.
