Rent and all that (long)..
posted 17th Jan
So we need to mOve into a two bedroom apartment because not only is my son getting older, we are expecting another little one. Well I talked to our apartment managers and there is only going to be a 2 bedroom available "in about a month". We pay 885.00 a month in our apartment now, and it will only be 1025.00 for the two bedroom. Not bad. The only problem is we will have to pay, first months rent, a deposit, and a transferring fee all equaling about $1925.00. I don't know how I will get that up in one month. Well needless to say I am STRESSED. But it just popped into my head, the money I have for next months rent can just go towards the new apartment right? Or will I still have to pay rent for our *now apartment* even though we would be moving into the new apartment in about a month?
I'm sorry it's so long and confusing, and typing it all out on my phone really sucks.

Yes, you will have to pay rent in the place you are currently living until you move. Even if rent is due on the 1st and you move on the 10th, you still have to pay that month, just how it works.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that's how it worked. But wouldn't it have to be prorated?

unless you can move out completly on the first then you will most likely have to pay for both, but since its the same apartment complex they should work with you. When i switched between apts in the same complex they let me transfer my deposit and my last months rent over to the new place. I just had to make up the difference

Unfortunately you have to pay the rent. What about tax money?

yes most places will prorate it

If you are there at the beginning of the month you have to pay that month's rent. So, if you were moving into the other place on February 15th, you would still have to pay the rent at the place you're at on February 1st. If they're nice they might prorate, though. You would only have to pay like half a month's rent for your new place if you're only there half a month, but a lot of places won't do that.

Thats how i've always known it to work. But according to this place, the deposit does not transfer over because they routinely use most of it to repair and clean etc.
I am not really sure what to do, and I'm sure this stress in not good for the baby. I will bring up that idea to them though and see what they say.

It makes sense for them to prorate it, with it being the same apartments and all. Ugh.

Can you use Tax money?

Why do you have to pay all that if it's the same complex? That's crazy.

I haven't filed them yet, so I'm not sure if they would be ready by that time.

They SHOULD prorate it and I hope they do. Some places here are smurfs and refuse to, that's why I said that.
