Threaten health insurance with news media?

One of my DS Dr.'s suggested threatening to contact the news companies in regards to my sons communication device. I was told the insurance is being difficult for absolutely no reason. There is more than enough evidence on why he needs it and there is no reason why he should have to wait. He is the perfect example of someone who needs an aid and can effectively use it. The dr. Said a denial was shocking news. And the appeal could take months. They basically want to see if we are willing to jump through hoops to get it and it's wrong.

I'm on the fence. What do you think? Wait or call and demand?

I would call and threaten them, no one wants negative media and to deny a kid a device they need would look super bad on the company and possibly cause a loss of business. With the media and internet it wouldn't take long for millions of people to hear about what the company is doing.

True. I'm worried about follow through if they actually deny it. I'm like what to do? What to do?

If it gets them a lot of negative attention they will either give into your demands or a ton of good samaritans will help you with the cost of what it is you need. Either way, threatening to go to the press usually gets smurf going.

I'd call & threaten. Also accuse of discrimination because the child really does need it then there is no reason he should have been denied. See if you can get to the bottom of it with the insurance company before you threaten them but make sure you follow through with said threat if they deny your appeal without probable cause

Thank you for all the advice. I'm going to talk with DH about it and DS OT and speech on Friday and see what their take is on the situation.
