I would stick with an actual home inspector. Contractors sometimes have no idea what they are looking for. My husband uses an infrared camera in all of his inspections and it's amazing at some of this things he finds. I definitely recommend this since the house is so old.

Yeah that would be better lol. My hubby wants to try government grants for old home restoration its a 1900s so I think we are in the range for it.

we live in williamstown ky, a small little rural town.

I agree two hundred percent. When I bought my house BDs uncle was a contractor and he "inspected" the house. Turns out the took leaked, bad and there wasold in the ceiling from it. It cost a smurf ton to replace.
