Night awakenings
posted 16th Jan
My little boy will be four months on the 21st.
He's been sleeping through the night from 9/10 p.m.-6/7 a.m. since he was about seven weeks old.
Well lately he has been waking up anywhere between 3-4 to eat. Nothing about our routine has changed since he was around seven weeks.
I've gathered from a few articles I've read that the night awakenings could be an indication that he's ready for solids, could this be the case?
I am going to ask our pedi Next Wednesday but I wanted seasoned moms input as well.
I'm not 100% for giving him solids this young but I'm not completely against it either. I wanted to wait until 6-9 months at least, maybe longer but if he's hungry I don't want him to starve you know. One thing I'm not going to do is give cereal. If he IS ready for solids, I want to give him something with real nutritional value.
Oh I'll add that he's breastfed and I'm supplementing with formula.
anyways, what do you moms think/suggest?

DS did this exact thing. He was still content, just ate a couple times at night. We still waited until 6 months and he was fine with it. Sometimes when they become more alert, they don't eat as well in the daytime and they eat better at night with less distractions.

DS is 3 months in three days and he's done the EXACT same thing. I have no idea what caused it, but it's driving me nuts lol I was used him sleeping through. I don't think it means he's ready for solids, I think he's going through a growth spurt and is waking up hungry again. Hopefully it passes

Could be a growth spurt or teething.

My husband said he could see tooth buds sprouting. I've seen them too but so far they're still below the gum line.

He's more than likely going through a growth spurt.
It's quite common for infants sleep cycles to go back and forth (sleep through the night for a while, then go through a phase of night waking).
IMO, 4 months is still a little too young for solids.

He eats good during the day. But you do have a point. He's such a light sleeper. Something could be waking him up, what I don't know. lol

Me too! On rare occasions he's even slept til' 8. I just worry he isn't getting enough but he's gaining weight so I suppose I'm doing something right.

Good possibility is teething. I had the same issues wit both of my boys while they were teething.

As long as he's peeing heaps and gaining weight you're good to go

Hi! i know i usually dont post but wanted to this time~ jinas been waking up more often than usual for the past couple months, like every 3 hours, sometimes every 45 min-1hr because shes teething. but shes almost 15 months now though and its the big teeth towards the back thats coming in so i know its painful. when jina was around 4 - 4 1/2 months old, she got her first couple teeth, and ive heard of first tooths coming in earlier than that, so its possible your son could be teething already~! i never noticed her getting up more often at night but then again, she only slept through the night a few times her whole life so far. you mentioned that your husband saw teeth buds. even before the teeth cut through, the gums could be aching from the pressure and he could be feeling discomfort or some pain, so it could be the teething~ sorry im not much help!
