Just curious....

posted 16th Jan
My little sister is 11 weeks pregnant her first appointment was today. She had an ultrasound today, after the ultrasound they asked if our insurance covers cysitic fibrosis testing, and that they wanted another ultrasound next week where the actual O.B. would be doing the ultrasound, they also said something about determining the number of fetus'.... my question, is this normal? The only two things going through our brains are something is wrong with the babe or it's twins... but wouldn't they be able to see at 11 weeks clearly whether it was twins or not?

Not necessarily. One could be hiding behind the other. It's not all that uncommon for them not to see twins until later on.

Testing for CF is normal but I don't know why they would want her back in a week. Perhaps the tech saw something that led her to believe there's more than one in there.

I don't know that they could see anything that would indicate CF on an early ultrasound. My friend's nephew has it in his lungs and intestines and they didn't know until he was born.. That was 10 years ago, though. I would think it was just
a precaution, like the other tests.

They could for sure see twins by then, though. Good luck to her!

We didn't know if it was normal or not because my O.B. has never asked about any testing they just did it....

We would much rather twins than anything wrong with babe, the only testing I knew of at 12 weeks was the NT testing, so I thought maybe she just misheard, but they want to test for CF and determine number of fetus'.
