That is the only downside to bulk billing, though the one I currently go to we are lucky that during 9 - 5 hours you can book an appointment but Janice's are you won't be lucky enough to see the same GP. Their gap fee is also only $16 to $20 on the spot and Medicare takes care of the rest - they send out a letter that we take back to the clinic.
We still see some pretty uncaring doctors at that place, so my partner and I are looking elsewhere and getting me put on his private health. I would rather pay more for that than to worry about having something wrong with us (or the baby when it comes).
At least we've got a few options in Australia.

Just wondering, what happens if someone needs a c section? How much does that cost?

I have heard about Australia's healthcare system, and I would like to see America head in that direction.

My daughter is on medicaid too, I tried because my work's insurance is just too high, but if you work you can't get it.

Exactly.
I find the care of a dr in a more private practice much better. He is very thorough and instead of just prescribing medications he actually refers to find out the cause. Money well spent.

IN legally approves children under 18 for medicaid so my girls are all covered. I am as well. If your child isn't insured, you should totally look into state coverage.

The hospital here does financial assistance. You have to fill out some paperwork then depending on how low your income is you could end up paying 50%, 25%, or nothing at all. I have had to go once since I have been without insurance and ended up not having to pay. I'm also on BP meds that are right around $16 a month and I can just pay for that because it isn't too awful much, I have to see my primary doctor every 12 months about my BP meds and that visit is only $60. DD gets medicaid, but they told me I wasn't qualified since I was over 18 and not disabled, so I just deal with it because all the insurance plans we've looked at, we can't really afford right now.

No I just went to the office and applied. I had to have my lease, check stubs, bank statements and all that.

Agreed.
The last GP I went (in early Decemeber) I complained about a percistent loud cough that I was experiencing throughout the day and night for nearly 2 months prior. After he found out I had no allergies he tried to fob me off, saying how he didn't want to assume that it could be anything too "worrisome", but handed me a form to get a blood test done if I felt it was *necessary*. I left thinking it was nothing and it wasn't until I went for an appointment with my midwife this week that I found out that the form was to test for whooping cough. I am waiting for my results to come back later this week.
I know that if I had gone to a private GP they would have told me up front what they wanted to test, I would have rather known and worry about nothing than be left in the lurch thinking I was just being a hypochondriac.

30k? That is ridiculous, how could they ever expect someone to pay such a high price o.O

Holy moley!!
I go through private. It cost me $250 for my excess and maybe a $2000 fee for my private obstetrician.
If I had gone through the usual hospitals it would have been free

My daughter would get sick a lot and they would say just a cold and give her antibiotics and steroids. I kept saying that her tonsils were always enlarged (aboriginal from her dads side so not uncommon)
Finally when we went to a different place she now only has a nasal spray and will have surgery this year to remove to tonsils and adenoids.
