No. As someone who knows politicians and high ranking military officials (including my mom and step-dad) I can't see any of them getting together and collectively trying to screw over this nation*. I don't see how it would benefit them anyway. If there were to be large amounts of disruption in this nation then stock markets would go down, the economy would bottom out, and no one would win. Why would they do that? It would affect them negatively in the long run.

So no, I don't think there's a hidden agenda (as a whole). I do, however, believe there are plenty of smurfed up politicians who are personally hell bent on making more money. Because of this they will pass laws that might help their own agendas out but fortunately because of our multi-party system and checks and balances really extreme laws are rarely passed and if they are it's because said law was backed by a lot of people.

* I only mention knowing people because there's this theory that military personnel and politicians are all evil but that isn't the case and I can say this with 100% certainty when immediate family is involved in the government.
