Okay, thank you.. I will ask first then. I just wasn't sure if it was something I should expect from other dentists or not. We do not have a Kool Smoles, there is a Kool Kidz, but twenty miles away and no reviews.. I hate when there are no online reviews.

Quoting GL♣PB:" eh I don't know.. She got amazing reviews, then one.. not so good review.. at all. She is the first ... [snip!] ... good reviews from my minute list that our insurance allows.. so I wanted to double check before I moved on.. to the next haha"

If she got mostly good reviews then I wouldn't dismiss her immediately. I know sometimes the parents can make a bigger deal out of something than the kid and for that reason, they may have told the parent that they were not allowed back. I know a lot of times it's easier for me to take xrays of kids with out their parents in the room because the kids like to put on a show for the parents when the kid would be totally fine with out the parent there.

From what I've heard its pretty normal for them to request parents wait in the waiting area, unless of course the kid panics about going alone.

Some don't but I wouldn't go to one that wouldn't let me back there. I recently heard of a story where they were drilling holes into toddlers' teeth and they weren't letting the parents even know about it.   Plus my 3 year old is scared of everything so I had to be there to help hold him down.

This is very normal practice. Here is why. They told me it was because children tend to freak with parents there. I didn't really believe it, but thought meh, this dentist was very highly recommended, a longtime childhood friend worked there and their set up was awesome, nothing fishy could go down with how the back was set up so figured what the hell. My daughter's first appointment was when she was 3. She went back completely alone. Did amazing. Never had to be called back. When she was 6 my 5 yr old had his very first appointment. My daughter was called back first. When my son was called back, I went with him, only 3 and up are alone, and noticed my daughter laying back watching a movie with headsets on laughing and joking with the hyegentist. She then went to go have xrays and on the way was still laughing and joking and she happened to notice me. I smiled and waved and that's when smurf hit the fan. She started whining, crying for me and being a downright brat with the girl. She would have been 100% fine if she had never seen me back there. With all the appointments I have been to with all of my kids, even before they went back by themselves, I have NEVER seen a child pitch a fit who was back without their parents.

Aug that the thought of my baby being tied down makes me cringe, I would NOT allow that.. I saw someone on here post that their son was put to sleep to have his teeth cleaned.. would they not normally do that?

Exactly. I've seen it happen. I've seen a little girl screaming and running around the room while we were trying to get a chest xray and the mother was NO help, just made everything worse. THEN the mother calls and complains that the other tech traumatized her daughter. Children are very tricky, lol.

Now I wish we had a Kool Smiles .. there are only 18 Pediatric Dentists within 25 miles of us (and in network with our insurance), but over a hundred General, would you definitely reccommend a Pedi over Gen then?

I will call in the morning.. by the time I looked her up, her office was closed. I really hope they will let me, otherwise the office looks very nice plus I can't find any reviews on the other Pedi Dentists.

They are fine. I only went back with my then 4-year old because they were taking x-rays and she got excited, so they called me back. For my Gen dentist that my 11 year old sees, my entire family has been going there for 16 years. The pediatric dentist I see for my other two is absolutely wonderful. The hygenists are very friendly and reassuring to both moms and kids.

ETA: When I said she got excited, I meant the anxious excited, nervous and such...but they were quick and she was great.

There is a commercial I saw the other day about Kool Smiles being involved in lawsuits over unnecessary and forceful restraint. With that lap to lap technique I described before, you can hold and control a child's hands and make them feel comforted and not freaked the smurf out strapped to a table.

I am going to.. finding a dentist was just on my list of things to do and I got distracted, plus I didn't even think this would be an issue.
My son will be three in March and hasn't gone yet.. but he just got on our dental plan this year :/
