If you took meds for PPD/PPP

posted 16th Jan
What did you take and how long were you on them? How long did it take before you felt better? DO you feel like your relationship with baby improved a lot or no?

I was on Zoloft and Ativan. The Zoloft took about 2 weeks, the Ativan worked instantly. I was on them for about a year, mostly because there were other stressful situations happening in my life so my psychiatrist recommended that I stay on the Zoloft a little longer. Yes, it improved 100% but I was hospitalized for a suicide attempt and he was taken out of my care.

My doctor put me on Zoloft. I didn't like it. So I quit taking it and started exercising. That is what made a huge difference for me. My relationship with my daughter improved dramatically after that where as before I almost felt like I hated her, and wanted absolutely nothing to do with her. Now she's my world and my little best friend.

I took them. And I did feel better. I think I would have felt even better than what I did, had I taken them all the time instead of just when I felt like PMS. But, that was a decision between me and my Dr, because I was afraid of LO getting meds through breast milk.

i was put back on my lexapro, which always worked great for me before, but it didn't help this time. they switched me to zoloft and klonopin. i LOVE the zoloft, hated the klonopin. the klonopin didn't do anything bad, really, just didn't help so i felt like it was a waste.

I liked it because it did calm me down and help with my anxiety. But that in combination with Ativan kind of made me feel like a zombie. I'm an intense person as it is so to not have ANY emotions was kind of bizarre for me. Other then that it worked great. I was court-ordered to take it anyway but I believe it did help.

PPD can be just a little sadness/weirdness, but i believe for the most part they handle it with medication. I've struggled with depression for awhile though, and my OB was hyper vigilant during my pregnancy watching for signs, and thought it would be best dealt with with medication.

Well thats good to hear. I'm not really depressed/thinking of suicide, more i get frustrated and mad towards DD, and (i feel like a bad mom saying this), i've thought a few times while she was screaming of shaking her. Plus SO and my dad think i'm "bat smurf crazy" lately. Hopefully it helps with that.

I lost custody of my son so I had to prove that I was mentally fit to take care of him.
