3 year old forces themselves to puke?

posted 16th Jan
Anyone's kid do this?
Two nights ago, Ellie vomited for the first time ever. She had a stomach ache, threw up and it passed. Last night, she didn't want to eat dinner so I witnessed her putting her hand in her mouth, trying to puke and told her to stop and tried to explain why she can't do that.

This morning, we woke up and she said "Mom, come in my room, see what happened!" and there was vomit all over her bed. She was acting fine, ate breakfast, etc. I think she's doing it for attention. She couldn't tell me why, she's 3.

Anyone go through this? Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

My son did that when he was about 18 months old. He did it a couple times a day for about a week. I think he eventually realized it didn't feel good and he stopped.

I'd take my child to the Dr. if they started doing this. I'd be worried it would lead to an eating disorder later. Hopefully, it is just an isolated incident.

I thought thi was gonna be a post about a mom who just wasnt paying attention to her child and as scary as this seems I am so glad its not that way ...For starters do you know where she learned this? Also sitting and telling her as you did why its is a good thing dont forget the unhealthy side of it as well...not to scare her but well ok yea kinda about how puking can mess up you teeth etc....Try to make puking as unfun as possible such as tell her if she has this problem it means dr. visits which is true and a brat diet since she needs foods that are safer etc. keeping any postive attention out of it and the negative attention that has to be given will hopefully help her end this quick along with most kids learning that just sucks to do to yourself and hurts as most logical consequences do ...also try mabe saying she has to help you clean up the mess mabe? idk if you feel she is old enough for that some kids are and some are not it depends on your child

Lol one time my son was eating that oatmeal with dinosaur egg candies in it that hatch into dinosaur sprinkles. He'd gladly eat the oatmeal if there was a Dino egg in it. If he found out there wasn't (by feeling in his mouth) and it was ONLY oatmeal, he would literally force himself to throw everything up. It was so annoying. Just because he didnt get his way because there were no Dino eggs left.

My now 4 year old always makes himself throw up after he eats   His doctors think it's a phase but I'm convinced it's an eating disorder.

We explained being sick and everything isn't a game. I think it's an attention thing. Thanks for the advice! Hopefully it's just a one time thing.

My son went through a faze of fake-coughing for attention. The reason why I knew it was fake (besides how fake it sounded) is because I tested it by not reacting. He got louder then looked at me and stopped and said "mom, aren't you going to pat my back?? Or rub it??" Lol I told him if he wants me to rub his back then to not pretend. Just ask me. Now I'm always on back rub duty when he's laying in my lap. It's cute though because he'll rub and pat my back too.

Maybe take him to a psychologist specializing in kids?

My son did this for a short period of time when he was a baby. I understand that being normal. It's the way she went about it that concerns me. Almost as though she was proud of herself for making herself puke. Amused almost. Maybe a read btw the lines something that wasn't there.

I'm thinking maybe she liked the attention she got when she actually threw up. So that's why she's doing it. To get the comfort. Like I said, my son did that with his cough because when he would cough alot I'd pat his back. He liked that comfort so he continued to fake cough to get that comfort.
