New York's New Gun laws. Yay or Nay

If you haven't heard yet, NY's governor, Andrew Cuomo signed a new bill into effect yesterday. NY now has some of the TOUGHEST gun laws in the United States... The main points of the bill are:

"Among the key points of the legislation are limits on magazines, mandatory license renewal for gun owners every five years, stiffer penalties for bringing guns on school property or using a gun to commit a crime and further restrictions on assault weapons."


It is now a felony ( I believe) for a NYer to purchase an assault weapon on the internet, magazines are limited and cannot hold more then 10 rounds, and all people possessing a firearm MUST reapply for their permits every 5 years.

I see a lot of people who are upset by the bill, declaring it unconstitutional. What do you think? Are you FOR or AGAINST the bill, would you like to see your state adapt a similar bill?


**Also, for those WHO OWN assault weapons NOW, they are not forced to turn them over, they will be grandfathered in but a year from, yesterday ( I believe) they ALL must be registered, or else they can be seized.

I'm for it, I'm not going to lose any sleep over less semi & automatic weapons personally lol And I'm glad they are taking the licensing and background checks more seriously, there were loop holes that were letting people just walk into gun shows and buying a gun instantly basically, we need them to fix that law here, we have a lot of gun shows. Like, literally 99% of gun shows in my state are in my smurfing city >.<

A bunch of guys on my fb are freaking out about it. It's smurfing stupid. None of them even smurfing own guns. But they are whining that it's unconstitutional and bullsmurf like that. As far as I see it, it's like children. If you can't smurfing play nice, your smurf is getting taken away. That is what happened. Deal with it. They aren't saying you can't have guns, they are just saying you can't have guns that make it easier for you to massacre a building full of people in two seconds before you can be stopped >.<

I think it's so odd all the people who are so angry at this bill... It doesn't say you CAN'T buy or own guns ( even though getting a permit in NY was already hard as hell lol) it just restricts the type, and size of your clip. And puts stricter laws on bringing them to schools...

no one really needs HUNDREDS of rounds.. and if your stocking up for prepping or something, you can always buy some at a time.. i would think. or get them out of state or illegally.. which im sure people will do regardless of what the law says

Why does that part bother you? They aren't limiting your amount of magazines you can own, just how many bullets the clips can hold.


ETA: I could be wrong, I haven't read the bill in it's entirety yet, but that's the way I took it.

This amendment needs to be reworded. Our well regulated militia is not every Tom, Dick, and Harry with sheds full of assault weapons.

Yeh they changed it from a 10 round clip to a 7. Would just take a teeny bit longer to take out a whole city of folk then ;P

I am also totally cool with New York's new laws.

There was just a gun show in upstate, not that long ago. There were people protesting it, but it still went on.

And I just don't see the problem with this bill. If you live in NY you know they have strict laws on guns, even BEFORE this.

I got into a debate with my ex FIL over this not to long ago. He was saying something about how one of his guns, can hold over 300 rounds of ammunition ( IDFK lol) and I said why do you need all that? He said something along the lines of to protect myself..

My reply? If you need 300 rounds to protect yourself, you are doing something wrong... He didn't like it. Lol.
