re: New York's New Gun laws. Yay or Nay

I think the percentage is around 40% for the number of guns owned that are bought at gunshows.

That's alarming that almost half of all guns sold in the US are not being regulated.

That is very alarming. And I'm not saying do away with gun shows, but there should be some kind of regulation on the SALE of guns at them.

I know the law said something about putting stricter restrictions on gun sales/shops.

just because you don't like them doesn't mean others don't. And they'll never go away even if they attempt to disarm America there will just be more bad guys with guns and less good guys.

I am all for registration and limited ammo but a ten round gun clip....sucks could we stick to 25 that would be fine and reasonable and I would like some form of being able to buy online mabe another kind of registration or tracking etc. but till it can be better watched it makes sense just would hope it would change and I am all in agreement to up persecution of gun crimes in anyway...so long as we can buy guns and have ammo within a reasonable amount I think strict laws registration and strict punishments are a smart way to handle it like any other country and most who bitch about it either dont own guns in my experience or own an ak 47 just to show off and dont need to own one anyway...if you play with big toys expect there to be rules also tho that being said officers and military personal follow stricter rules at thier own work than most of the laws for personal weapons and it keeps things very safe for us at most bases...and I would hope that most states use thier guildlines as an example to go off of

But this bill isn't to "disarm" America.... I know you were responder to her statement " that she wishes they'd all go away". Just wanted to say that.

Under current New York law, background checks on gun purchasers are required for all purchases of guns from gun dealers and at gun shows. Section 17 will expand this requirement by adding a new article to the General Business Law requiring background checks to be completed for all gun sales, except for immediate family. Thus private sellers may transfer a gun only if the buyer has obtained a federal "NICS" check. Further, dealers must maintain records of private sale background checks, and private sellers may charge a fee of up to $10 on a transaction. Transfers between immediate family members will be exempt from the requirements of this section.
This is what it says about gun show/sale regulations.

Since our nation was developed by killing other people and stealing their stuff, I guess I can understand the paranoia our culture has about weapons and self-defense. Better to make sure somebody new doesn't come along and do the same to us, right? Our culture is so embarrassing.

I couldn't agree more. I'm all for stricter gum laws.

There also needs to be some sort of regulation on the sale of guns at gun shows. 40% of guns being bought at them? That's ridiculous!

I might have interpreted it incorrectly then...

In that case, its not really an issue for me.

Section 38 of the bill amends Penal Law 265.00(23) to ban all large capacity magazines that have the capacity to hold more than ten rounds of ammunition including those that were grandfathered in under the original assault weapons ban and creates a new ban on magazines that hold more than seven rounds of ammunition. Magazines that can hold more than seven rounds but not more than ten rounds and are currently possessed will be grandfathered in, but may only contain seven rounds of ammunition. Exceptions are made for large capacity magazines that are curios or relics.

I just wanted to say, and no I didn't read the bill, nor am I going to. I'm not a resident of NY, and never will be so it doesn't apply to me. That being said, no matter how many of these bills and laws that are passed, it isn't going to stop a criminal. There is no such thing as a law abiding criminal. If someone wants a specific type of gun to commit a crime with, they'll find a way to obtain it. This bill isn't affecting criminals, it's affecting law abiding citizens.

I prefer to have my home stocked up with guns and ammo to protect my family, and promote gun safety, then limiting what a citizen can and cannot have.
