Baby with the flu :(
posted 16th Jan
My LO is 5 weeks old. I had to take him to the hospital for fever throwing up and he has not been eating today. He tested positive for the flu. The Dr gave me a prescription for tamiflu. I don't think he can take that him benign so young. I am going to call his Dr in the morning to see what else I am support to do. It scares the crap out of me know that they are saying so many people have died from this.

Were you not offered the flu jab when pregnant? I had one for that reason, your anti-bodies would have been passed onto him too, your doctor is probably the best option, does it say on the tamiflu if it can be taken by such a young baby?

No, I was not offered the flu jab I have never heard of that. I looked it up on the web site and It says ages 1 and up.

They can't give it to the baby because baby is too young but can be given to pregnant women to protect unborn baby at the vulnerable time after birth when no injections are given!
Maybe it is different here?!
Did you speak to your doctor? x

Tamiflu's website says any babies over 2 weeks old. Its most effective in the first 48 hrs. I would call the emergency hotlune for your pediatrician to double check. Call tonight because that is not something you want to wait on.

I took him back to the Dr this morning and they retested him and this time it was (-). I asked him how was it positive two days ago but negative now. He said it sounded like mane he was exposed to the flu and that made him sick but it did not turn into the full fledge flu. He is doing better tonight no fevers but he does still have a upset tummy.
