3 babies passed away while Anya was in there, that one, a baby with meningitis, and a 3rd one that was so close to going home and then she got really sick. I talked to that mother a lot too, her bedspace was on the other side of a half wall from Anya's. The hospital we were in, had a parents room, and the last day I saw her in there, she was crying her eyes out, and I asked her if there was anything I could do, and all she could get out, was that she just signed the papers to let her daughter go the next time her heart stopped. I never saw her again after that, and the baby died the next day. I was in there when they called it, and I heard everything and I started crying. The head neonatalogist told the nurses that any baby that was stable, the parents could hold them as long as they wanted. I held Anya for 8 hours that day, the longest I had gotten to hold her before that was 15 minutes.

It takes a special person to be a NICU nurse, but it also takes an extremely strong person to be one too

I couldn't do it, every day would be too emotionally taxing.
