Influenza A positive...

I'm reaching out to any other parents that might have a child or know of a child that's tested postiive for Influenza A...My 6 year old daughter has been sick since Saturday with a fever. She fought this fever, stomache ache and just plain lethargic for almost 24 hours before I finally said enough is enough. Me being a nurse, I tried everything I could do at home to get her feeling better, before I took her into the ER. No matter how much Motrin and Tylenol around the clock I gave this child, that fever just would not come down! I just couldn't take seeing her miserable anymore...concerned it might be appendicitis because of her right sided abdominal pain I finally took her in. They did a flu swab, as well as worked her up for appendicitis. Of course the flu swab results came back before it was time to do the cat scan...and her flu swab was positive for Influenza A. They still moved forward with the CT to be on the safe side, her appendix is A-OK! However, now I have a miserably sick child. My heart breaks watching her so sick...She's upset because she's missing school and has now messed up her perfect attendance. Is anyone else experiencing this horrible flu epidemic that's hit the nation??? anyone have any remedies I could try to help her get more comfortable??

Me and all 3 of my kids had it a few weeks ago. Really nothing helps. Tylenol and Motrin rotated and lots of fluids. We drank so much ginger ale and Gatorade!

I honestly think my soon to be step son had a very mild case of it last week, he had all the same symtpoms just not as severe...and I think he gave it to her. She's had about 3 naps today....but I must say she's doing really good at taking the Tamiflu they prescribed to her!! She HATES liquid medications!! I picked up Gatorade at the store yesterday, so hopefully that helps! thank you   I hope you and your kids are feeling much better! I don't wish this nasty thing on anyone!!!

I don't wish this upon anyone. hopefully it's not going around their school when they return!  

My 11 month old has Influenza A and pneumonia
Her sister was never tested for the flu but im 99% sure she had it as well. She also a severe ear infection.

Awe!!   a double whammy!! I hope the poor little thing starts feeling better!!

They are all better now this started on xmas eve for us and ended last week.

Lots of rest definitely helps too! I was probably the biggest baby of all of us lol. We had such a bad outbreak here back in December when we had it, that all Pharmacies in our area were out of Tamiflu. When they finally got it in we were already more than 48 hours in so we didn't even try it. I've heard it helps tons though! We had the congestion, and cough part the worse. The only relief I got was in the shower with all the steam.

She's starting now with the congestion and coughing...
