"In Texas, a pregnant woman who sometimes smoked marijuana to ease nausea and boost her appetite gave birth to healthy twins. She was arrested for delivery of a controlled substance to a minor."
Wut?
"You can be charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance (DCS) not only for the actual transfer of a controlled substance from one person to another but also for any attempt to transfer a drug from one person to another. If you are charged with possession of a drug in an amount found to be greater than the amount a person would normally possess for personal consumption it will be considered an attempt to transfer and is punishable as an actual, completed delivery."
So, if that story is true, that's totally smurfed. The charge doesn't even fit the "crime."
Our court system is so smurfed up.

This isnt' shocking to me - it's sad, but not shocking. When I was researching VBAC for a friend (I never had a c0section) I found a site that listed 9 cases in my state alone in the previous 5 yrs where women had been forceably arrested & taken tot the hospital & had c-sections performed against their will because they were attempting to birth at home to avoid a c-section. One woman was arrested after the safe & healthy birth of her child...and another was taken to get a c-section even though her baby was crowning & there were no signs of distress. :S It shouldn't happen, but it absolutely does.
