Cake decorators, HELP?

posted 15th Jan
I'm pretty seasoned working with fondant and NOT wrecking cakes

The problem is... I hate fondant. I love the look, I love what I can do with it, but the taste is bleeeehhh. Most of my family agrees. My 7 and 8 year olds are having a joint party this year and have requested a cake similar to this:

Yeah. They want "penguins snowboarding and stuff."

I made a penguin as a tryout and it came out great, so I think I can make a passable cake IF I don't use fondant for the base, as that is where my mistakes tend to come in and no one likes the taste anyway. My question is, since they want the cake part to be a very very pale green, could I tint the buttercream and use that, and make the penguins from fondant, without the wetness of the buttercream ruining the fondant decorations?

Maybe do the penguins snowboards out of chocolate (make chocolate bark) and put that on the buttercream.

I haven't tried that! I've been wanting to make a cake using white fondant too, might have to try that. I've tried marshmallow fondant and BLEH, but I've never heard of using white chocolate. Thanks!

Just melt it at 30 sec intervals in the microwave to melt the chips and then add the corn syrup and stir it. It will form a hard ball, you want that. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and sit over night. You can color it too the next day by just adding gel food coloring   I have a hard time not eating it when I work with it haha

Thank you so much! Going to try it soon as a test run. Hopefully a very tasty test run!
