Breaking them from the Pacifier.

posted 15th Jan
My son turned a year on the fourth. He is already on a hard spout sippy, the only thing I have left now is to break him from the Paci... I need some good suggestions.

I think its going to be rather hard because he seems extremely attached and he is cutting teeth at the moment too.

Any idea's ladies? Something you have tried that worked?

I just took it away. The first day was hell. The second day was horrible...the third day she forgot all about it. Just don't give in. Don't go one day without it and then give it back. Make sure it's gone completely. No hidden ones...no nothing.

This is all you can basically do. Cold turkey and don't cave to give it back either. It is mostly you that has to learn not to pop it in his mouth when he is unconsolable. Just be strong and they will eventually forget that they had it. Earlier you break them of it the best IMO! Good Luck!

We went cold turkey. She cried the first night for a while, and then less the second night, and by the third day, she didn't care.

See I this is what I want to do. Just cold turkey ya know, problem is I know I can handle it but my husband is the one I worry about. DS lost is Paci back about a month ago and it was his last one, he was so irritable and would NOT stop crying and screaming for anything, it irritated my husband so bad that we got into a huge fight and he said he was leaving me.... DH has absolutely NO patience when it comes to DS crying and carrying on. UGH. Thats the only thing really stopping me from doing cold turkey.

I didn't take my daughter's til she was 2, but even then I just took it and never gave it back. I got rid of any I found in the house, and refused to buy more. I told her big girls didn't have paci's.. and she had just PT'd that week also so she said she was a big girl.

We already tried this too. It doesn't work haha. DH doesnt go back to work for another two weeks so I was thinking while he has no sleep to loose or anything I need to do it now, if I don't i'm going to have an extremely tired and cranky husband and baby on my hands. Dont think I could do both..
