eh, if people had to pay for school, a lot of kids wouldn't go.

Obviously, you know how I feel about her stance.

Anyone that would like to know what this country was like before public education is more than welcome to look into the history of education in the United States.  

I'm proud to be a teacher in the public school system and I am grateful that my students get a chance to be successful despite not coming from wealthy families.

When I read the article I was dismayed. I was skeptical of course, because I'm skeptical of anything that doesn't make sense. But I was also desperate to know that a whole state in my country could not be THAT dumb (although I realize Mississippi has done some pretty dumb things). So I backtracked on the url and found the Repository of Lost Legends, which also led to False Authority. I was so relieved.  

I think it was clever of Snopes to include this - a good lesson that regardless of the source, we should question everything.

Well I feel silly.   I really thought that was true about MS. In my own defense, it was easy to take that at face value after some of the things I've heard about how things are down there. IDK, I'm an uppity yankee with a fear of the deep south, so it was like free candy. Now I know.

The article was well written in that it wasn't over the top to avoid setting of alarm bells, plus coming from Snopes you expect it to be legit.
